Hey everyone,

I bought my first camera in the fall of 2003 (Canon S30) and since then...I'm in love with Canon and digital photography!

Well, now I have the Canon A710IS and I love it! Recently, for Christmas, I bought the Adapter (LA-DC58G) and a Macro lens (250D 58mm). Now, I've been playing with it for a couple hours and I don't really see a difference in shooting with or without it.

As this is my first lens I have ever bought for a camera, I have some questions. (Good thing there is no such thing as a stupid question...)

When shooting with the lens on, I made sure to go to the Camera Menu and change the setting for 250D. So, this should be correct so far.

1) When I zoom-in with my lens, the camera's lens comes pretty dang close to my 250D. Am I supposed to zoom all the way so that the camera's lens comes close to my new 250D Macro lens? Is this how the lens works?

2) Do I have to have the Macro setting (the flower icon) turned on for the lens to focus correctly? If I zoom in all the way, the Macro setting is not able to be used (it is grayed-out).

3) When shooting insects and bees without the 250D lens, I can get prety good shots. So, is the purpose of the Macro lens, which is +4, to get a closer looking shot while not getting that close to the subject?

4) Can I shoot with this lens in Auto mode?

5) When using the 250D, do I have to use Manual Focus?

I know these are probably basic questions...but I have to learn/start somewhere! Thanks for the help!

At infinity focus with the 250D on, your camera should be focusing at something 250 mm away, no more (the "250"). Aside from shifting focusing distance, the close-up lens should b e invisible to the camera's operation. You'd use the camera as normal, just not on anything over 10" away from you.
