View Full Version : Something Slightly Amiss On The Canon USA Site

I was trolling the Canon USA site the other day, and when I clicked on the 'Ultra Wide Zooms' icon it popped up a page with 5 lenses showing, and the EF-S 10-22mm is shown twice. When you click on the first image, it shows you the info about that lens. The second image is the last of the five on the page, and that takes you back to the EOS 'Home' page.

When I first saw it, I just thought it was another brain fart like when the 17-40 disappeared for a week or so. But when you cursor over it, it points to a page with a 'modelid' that is different than the 'real' 10-22 points to. I am wondering if there is a new zoom lens coming at Photokina.

Has anyone heard any rumors of a new wide-zoom?

EDIT: fix typo

I read in a magazine that it's the new EF 1 - 6 f/0.03, only available in a galaxy far, far away.

Ooh, baby, baby - with a 270 degree angle of view - I'll be able to see behind myself at midnight!

I think you'll find that the model ID is part of the name of the EOS home page:

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=148&mode lid=10478

Whoops! No it isn't - its the same page but with a different name. Here's the real one as linked from the regular Canon USA home page:

Have Fun,

Hadn't heard anything, but its certainly possible. Could be a place-holder for something new.

OK, I think I know what it is. IIRC, There's two 17-55 EF-S lenses - the kit, and the new USM model. This is probably a placeholder for the USM version.

EDIT: 17-55 should be 18-55. Duh.

It might be. The 'modelid' is apparently a sequential number, maybe used just for inventory control (or maybe even just the Web site). I tried to track down other modelids near to it, but that didn't lead anywhere.

I had heard a rumor that they would sell the 18-55 as a separate item, perhaps this is it. Of course I was hoping for a new 'L' or maybe even an EF-S 'L'. Who knows...

Any rumors out there?

Sounds to me like their webmaster is a couple of beers short of a six pack.

They must be doing some work on their website without the "under construction" message. They're too big a company for that.
