I am trying to figure out the macro function on my SD800 IS. I have read the manual and noted that there are both a Macro mode and a Digital Macro mode.

Alas, the manual, which seems to be the case with most manuals these days, does not clearly explain the difference between the two. Nor is it readily apparent when switching between the two modes what the difference is.

Would some kind soul who has a minute or so mind explaining what the difference between these two? I have noted that in the Digital Macro mode, I am unable to switch from one flash mode to another, but that's the only difference I can so far see.

I did a search for this question on this Forum, but found nothing on this particular question.

Thanks,
Gunni

It's just like the 'digital zoom'. It digitally magnifies the image even more.

Hi Adas -

Hang with me on this if you would.

Just set my camera to digital zoom. I see that as long as the numbers on the screen are 1.9 or below, they are in white; if I go above 1.9, they turn blue.

Am I correct in concluding that means I have gone from "physical" zoom using just the lens, to "digital" zoom, which is an "electronic" magnification?

Also, any idea why, when in digital zoom/manual settings, you cannot toggle the flash on/off?

Many thanks,
Gunni
