Ok, well... I just recently got my 430EX flash, I am pretty happy with it so far...
I just read through the entire ENGLISH section of the manual, and I could not find an answer for these questions:

1) Is it possible to have the flash fire WHILE the camera is focusing? (Like the on camera flash does, it will constantly fire while the camera focuses so it can see) I know you can test shoot it, and have it get the exposure settings, but can you get it to light up the object\subject while the camera is focusing??
And that red light it shines, doesn't do much help (Especially for the XTi)

2) How come sometimes, I am able to fire the flash quickly (5 shots and then recharge) and others, I shoot once and wait about 3 seconds, and shoot, wait 3 seconds... Randomly it well be able to burst flash, then it wont, and I am not giving it any extra time to recharge before the bursts.

I would also really like some good links to sources that can teach me about exposure. (I am not exactly sure what the exposure 'numbers' are, (-1 through +2) I am use to just adjusting the shutter, aperture, and ISO myself)

The red light flashing is the AF assist beam that (thankfully) takes the place of the flashing.
Your burst rate will depend on the recharge of the flash unit, which will depend on the flash power required and the batteries you use. Most use nimh rechargables.
