i am thinking of installing a windows 64 bit and i am afraid i won't be able to find canon software for it. i consider them important specially zoom browser and DPP.
do they install and run on x64 operating systems? is there any version that runs on those operating systems?

They all run on 64.
Plus 64 lets you run in 32 bit mode. Upgrade away.

For some reason, Microsoft does not include support for their PowerToys app RAW Viewer Plugin, nor do they support their own Zune on x64.
But, they have a 32-bit emulator that lets you run all your old software. So, at least as far as ZoomBrowser and DPP are concerned, you're good to go!
And x64 is awesome... definitely go with it (if you have at least 4gb of RAM and an x64 Processor, of course).

Just out of curiosity has anyone had any success installing the EOS Utilty under Windows XP X64? I can't the installer returns
"You cannot install EOS Utility on this computer. Verify whether the required environment for use has been satisfied. Cancel installation"
Thanks for any helpful insights.

I just finished building a new PC with Vista 64. I have not installed Canon's software yet. I am just using PSCS3 for everything and it works great on the new machine.

Unfortunately I don't think you can... but I just dual boot 32 and 64bit windows for situations like this. It's only about 6 gigs total, and for the peace of mind it gives me I'm fine with it.
I only have a few apps that refuse to work under x64, so I keep my 32-bit build around just for that.

I started a thread about a month ago. Look it up and you'll see I had some of the initial problems. But with a combination of some fine advice and some digging, I was able to get everything to work out okay. Most of your answers will be handled in the thread. I'm currently using DPP, Zoom Browser, Utility, etc
And you don't need to run as 32 bit. It works on 64 bit (even though some of the notes say it won't)

Crap. I built a new system about a month ago, and was debating the 64 vs 32 bit OS thing. I had a so called expert tell me that I wouldn't get my software to run in the 64 bit world, so I went with the 32.
Maybe I'll add the 64 and have a dual boot system.

I haven't had a problem with the software installing on my x64 but, the driver doesn't work becauase its not a 64bit driver.. Still cant find the 64bit driver for it so im still stuck. HOwever I pretty much use CS2 for everything so it doesn't really matter. I would like to play around with the remote capture but, cant. DRAT!

No problem with x64 ... as you can see :-)

Well I never was able to get the installer to run under Windows XP x64, but I did discover that I could run the EOS Utility just fine from within my x32 install... so I just copied the directory over to the x64 drive and it works fine. Thanks for the suggestions and help folks.

Hey weegee, thanks for pointing me to the thread, I found it and read it... the difference is your running VISTA 64 and I'm running XP 64. The installers for VISTA/VISTA64/XP will not even install the EOS Utility under XP 64. I did find a work around that works fine for me. Again thanks for the help.

I really do wish Microsoft would support XP x64 even just a little bit. I have a few programs that all I needed to do was copy the extracted files to a new directory and they worked. However, the installer refused to work simply because it didn't recognize the OS version.
It's not like the OS environment is that different; if they would just either unify the MSI files or make 32-bit installation emulators, a majority of the software that is causing problems now would work flawlessly (a classic example being the Microsoft Zune software).

I never even tried, because I assumed that since the driver will not install (no 64 bit driver) then the utility would have absolutely no purpose what so ever.
Dave, do you have a working 64bit driver to use the utility?
Is it XP64 or Vista?

There seems to be no Canon RAW codec for Vista x64, so RAW files don't display in Windows Explorer, but all the other Canon software functions fine. And programs like Photoshop/Lightroom handle RAW natively so its not too big an issue, just something I'd like Canon to address some time.

Yep. The RAW Thumbnailer is one of the few powertoys that doesn't have x64 compatibility, and it makes me sad :(.

I miss my windows RAW viewer. I was so happy when I found that for XP.

Well there is one work around you can do.... if you run the installer the first thing it does is extract all the files (cabs included) into your temp directory. If you leave the installer up and running and go into the temp you can copy all the files to another location (do this because once you close the installer it will delete the files). Then you can install it manually. There are only two trouble some things about doing this, you can't make the registry entries (something I haven't found to be an issue yet), and you have to figure out where some of the dll files go in certain cases, but this method will work. I agree that MS should just fix the installer issue for XP x64. The actual program is usually sitting inside one of the cab files so you need winzip to open them and pull the files out. The easiest way to figure out where to put all of the files is just look at it on a x32 XP box.

We are working on a CR2 codec for Vista x64.

Regarding "You cannot install EOS Utility on this computer. Verify whether the required environment for use has been satisfied. Cancel installation" on XP x64:
The installation is blocked by SOFTWARE\SDI\COMMON\master.ini. If you wish try to install some programs which you think are runnable on x64 you can owerwrite the tag WINXP64=11111111 in this file.

I have XP X64 installed and Zoombrowser 6.3.1, I was trying to update to 6.4.1 (which I've had NO problems in the past updating) but get that STUPID message "You cannot install zoombrowser EX (XP) 6.4.1 updater on this computer. Verify whether the required environment for use has been satisfied. Cancel installation". This really is stupid as I gone from the version on my CD (S5is) to 6.3.1 with NO problems in the past.

Make sure you select "XP 64 bit" before downloading the update.

Huh ... I'm using that on 3 different systems and it's fine on all. XP SP3?
Also, did you remove the MS codec pack before installing?
