Hey guys, curious about manual focus...however the manual doesnt go in to specifics on it.

Anyone give me the break down on how it works exactly?

Thanks for the info all.

Easiest thing to do is just try it.

Basically, press the Macro/Man. button until you see a focus range bar on the LCD. There'll also be a magnified part in the center of the screen. You use the left and right arrows to focus until the magnified bit looks sharp.

As Jon said, but there is a caveat. Its not infinitely variable, You get a series of ranges (steps), as indicated on the range bar. Works OK.

exactly where i lose the process of doing it...what does the bar mean and how does it effect...sorry to ask so many questions..../curse canon for not providing this info in either manuals (advanced or basic)

Also, how would i manual focus on something thats off center of my screen, since the magnified part is in the center of my screen, can i move the camera after pushing it down half way and still get that framed shot but focused on something to the left or right?

Focussing is all about bringing the part of the image you want in to clear view. Have you ever used binoculars? They need adjusting (focussing) to see clearly.

The bar moves along a distance scale. When it is all white, it is focussing far away. When you press the left key the focus is moved nearer and nearer, and the scale reflects that.

If you want to focus on something off centre, move the camera so it becomes on-centre and then shift the camera again before taking the picture.

So basically frame the shot, press half way...turn the camera and use MF to the subject i want to focus, then move back and take the shot?
