Done a few searches about after-market batteries not fitting, in particular Stirlingtek, but I can't find that thread after filing down an edge to make them fit? Anyone help?

I take it yours aren't fitting? If you have the grip then I would/ve thought it would be easy enough to work out which bit gets filled down, all the best.

Not got them yet, just ordered so thought I'd do a bit of pre-reading. :)

Well, I will let you know something in a few days. I just ordered two BP-511A versions direct from SterlingTek yesterday. I also have one older (BP-511) style that works fine.

Mine don't eject from my 30D. I'll try this when I get home.

Mine came today.
4 days is great to the UK from the US.
Both fit perfectly in my 30D, and they're 2,000mah versions too... I thought I'd bought 1,700mah ones. :D
From that link posted above it doesnt seem that clear which edh=ge needs filing in case they don't fit. Can anyone post a clearer pic?

There's no real way to make it any clearer, just remove the bit below the red line.

Yeah but you're removing the area that's below that line, up to the line

the dark area is a protrusion you are shaving off the bottom part of it...
unless I am completely misreading the diagram

There was a fairly short time when the batteries from Sterlingtek had a problem; if you had any of those, and the diagram, it'd be quite obvious what needed to be done. But the batteries haven't had that issue for quite a while and Sterlingtek did respond to people who had that problem.

I did receive a pair about 2 or 3 months ago with the problem well over the time they were supposedly sorted, but I think that was just me.

I'd assumed it was an occasional 'bad-batch' that needed modifying slightly. :)

Got mine about a month and a half ago with the issue. 30 second fix though and they work great!

Got my two new Steriling Tek BP-511 batteries yesterday, and they slide right in or out of my 30D with no problems.

Sterlingtek has been great.
Swelling, as charging, is a characteristic of Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries. I suppose if one is trying to use the max volume for max amp-hours, then on occasion, the swelling can be a problem. I guess I can live with that because of Sterlingtek's great reputation and customer support and knowing that they will back up what they sell.

Mine 100% fit perfectly in my Canon grip on the 30D. :)
