Even back in the day of high school when I took B&W photography, my teacher said I was great at developing and exposure, just subject matter was too straight laced so to speak. He said I should be more creative.

I have seen a lot of photography in the forums and advertisements in magazines that have made me think. I tend to take my photos either perfectly horizontal or vertical. I have started to like when I see pictures that are taken at different angles. Like camera is in between vertical and horizontal.

The problem is that when I mess around and take odd angle photos, they don't seem right. I know it is personal taste, and that I am trying to get by my own issues with trying to have a perfectly straight picture.

I am not sure how to ask, or if this is even a question. What sort of ideas, or creative ideas of different camera angles. I am just trying to take my photography to the next level. More creative. I love taken candids of the family (wife and 2 year old son with daughter due in March).

Any ideas or photographers that people would recommend me look at to get out of my mold.

Stop thinking of documenting an item or a scene. Start thinking about abstract components of that scene...color, texture, shape, dynamics in composition. Now pull out those components in a photo in the best manner, horizontal and vertical be damned!

Shot the emotion and not the scene...

No, closer than that, to a subject & see how that affects your image.

Wide angle photography is always different, try that.

alll great ideas! thanks. I like the idea of getting real close at 17mm. Problem is that i ALWAYS have on my 430 ex, I know I know, I am trying to ween my self from that. I just take alot of pictures in my house with wife and son and without flash i have to have camera at high iso's. I always kept camera on 100-200 iso. I have realized that even at 800, the grain is not as bad as i though. I am saving up for a 40d. and if my wife lets me. 5d, which i doubt due to price. But when new 5d comes out, then i can get the old 5d and use that.

Couldn't agree more, and I like shooting low to the ground, things look a lot different when you look at them from a 2 year olds perspective!

That is how I shoot mostly. I am not a big fan of seeing the top of my sons head :) but to get the world from his perspective. From taking a snapshot to a photograph.
