Short break in the rain:
#1 fly - still struggling with the lighting/diffuser

#2 face only a mother could love

#3 one of those spiders that curl leaves up to make web

#4 another

#5 wet fly and a wet poo, shame about the angle of the fly, but it was a minefield manoeuvring around that thing...

I really like #2 a lot. I just got back from lunch so I can't say many positive things about #5 right now! Lol...
Between 3 and 4, I like the angle #3 was shot at, and the lighting is great. The drops of water on the leaf make for a nice touch.

Nice captures Troy. Like the fly shots, and the angle on #2. The wet pooh doesn't do much for me though.

Haha. Would love to have seen my face concentrating on balance while taking the shot. :D

Haha, sorry about #5. I should have named that one #2 for obvious reasons ;)
Agree about #3, probably wouldn't have bothered posting #4 in hindsight.

Thanks Gary, sorry about the last one. I like shock value occasionally, keeps you on your toes :)

Excellent series Troy- not much wrong with the flash diffusion as far as I can see- those flies with white bits on their faces are always a problem - you have to purposely underexpose to avoid blowing them. pretty certain #3 is a sac spider - normally green or brown and slightly translucent in colour. Think most of thes are night hunters so tend to hide on the underside of leaves during the day.

Thanks. We desperately need more rain here, our local dams are extremely low (23% I think at last count) and we've been on water restrictions for months, or is it years? So can't really complain when we do get it, but it has its downsides too, like affecting my photography opportunities.

Ha! Didn't stink that much. I preferred that over when I was all amongst several spider webs trying to get close and stood up too soon right into a web with spider on my face.

Agreed with Brian, it looks like a Sac spider, beware, they can give nasty bites.
As to the diffusion/fly, I agree with Brian again, I tend to underexpose by around 1/2 - 2/3 a stop with them now to avoid blowing out the frontal facial sections.
Good shots.

Thanks Dave. Looks to me that you and I are the most dedicated to our hobby here ;)
Don't get intend getting bitten by anything, whether it's nasty or not!
Thanks to you and Brian for the flash tips. I'll give that a try next time.

hehehe. Well, I've been bitten by a common black house spider years ago, a huntsman a few years ago, a white tailed spider about 8 months ago, a wolf spider around the same period. And, I just got bitten by a green ant about an hour ago on one of my toes and it's damn well killing me. I was trying to get a shot of a skink, and put my left foot near one of their nests...my own fault for not moving it (I knew the ant nest was there).
