Great job on exposure and nailing the focus. The way the action is capured is really cool. People rarely get to see this kind of stuff comming from a car.
My only critique would be that the framing seems to make the shot "un-interesting" I feel that the last shot got closer to "capturing the moment" but I think they were more apealing if the cars were leading you into the picture more

Great action shots. I think the shots that show some of the side of the car (like at a 45 degree angle) provide more interest.

I like the fact that the shots are nice and tight - too many images of sport are shot or cropped too loose.
Did you shoot any other stuff? Panning shots?

Very nice shots. I like the framing tight for this case, as the surrounding area in rallies generally aren't all that exciting. Too bad to hear that your camera broke...

Very nice!
You clearly know your corners, it looks like you found two very, very good ones there.
You've just given me a reason to stay up late on sunday and watch the WRC coverage we get here, it might be a week late, but better than never.

great you have captured the motion....but unfortunately it's the only thing you have captured.....what you have forgotten is the only interesting thing about moving cars are the people behind and in the seats.....look at your pix again and catch your eyes searching for the drivers and then look at the pix where you can't see a human beeing ....the pic has little value, it only shows the mechanical capability of your camera....a long time ago when i submitted my admitting portfolio for a cinema rpoduction course...i had a very old czech cinematographer, smiled at my very nice pictures and said ...so that's nice, you can press the release button but you can't see anything.....i've learned a lot since ( because of him and others)....the only real interesting things are the ones that move us because human beeings are in relation with them......remember cartier bresson pix ....they haunt my release finger every time i aim my cam.....cheers...

Yeah, I was looking for eyes in all the photos. There have been several outstanding racing shots displayed here that captured the driver as well
as the car. Something to shoot for in the future.

Jon, These are some OUTSTANDING action shots! I hope you were using a long lens, or else it looks as though you were definitely in "Harms Way".
BTW, What happened to your camera?

what you have forgotten is the only interesting thing about moving cars are the people behind and in the seats.....
I have to totaly disagree with that.
The automobile has been worked so completely into most of the worlds cultures that it can be the soul focus of a photograph.
The above shots show the cars working, performing at the extreme edge of the limits of modern enginering. Motorsport if one of a car manufactors biggest marketing resources, and one of the goals of any good team is to attract people attention to the cars. For many spectators the cars are thier primary reason for attending an event, or watching it on TV (this attitdue is becoming stronger has modern marketing techniques become less and less moral).
Of course the drivers, service crew and enginers still play an important part, and for the majortity of people are one of the major draw cards.
But its the drivers skill, not his face that people want to see, and again the above photos capture it just as effectivly as they do the cars own performance.

Just out of interest where abouts were you to take these shots?
I went to Halfway and one of the Rhondda stages in Cymer.
I was amazed at how close I got to the action, just a damn shame I don't have my new 20D yet!

excellent action series, it would be better if we can actually see them in the thread rather than click on the links :p
where exactly are those events held in UK? Can you tell me where to find information on various events like this? I'm dying to go to events like this, or BMX, dirt bikes etc.

I think they were in the thread but I got Pekka to change them to links as the thread wouldn't load with them as embedded.

Buy Motorsport News £2.20 usually available in WHsmiths out every Wednesday. Its a newspaper rather than a magazine and will list the weeks coming events including local minor rallies, autotests, sprints, hillclimbs as well as the usual circuit racing. Autosport does some of this but costs more and doesn't cover much of the grass roots stuff.
