Hi all,

Well I've finally got a chance to get to New York (not been a tourist for quite some years!)

Could do with little advice on which lens to take, I know that wide is probably going to be the order but will I need to go as wide as 10mm (BTW I'm using a 30D) or will 18mm be wide enough. I've got both the sigma 10-20 f4 and the sigma 18-200 f3.5 OS. I don't fancy trying to change lense on the streets of Manhattan!

Your advice and expertise would go a long way, as I'm not all that up on city photography and don't know what to expect when I get to New York.

Cheers

hmmm...I go to NYC alot and the thing that will matter alot is to keep an eye on your gear. You never know if you can leave it somewhere in a HUGE city like NYC

So what your saying is stick with one lens at a time?

I would take both. I think thats a good setup.

Yeah, bring both. If you only want to bring one the 17-200 will probably be OK, my last trip in I only really used my 24-105 and got some good shots, but if you can bring both that would be best, you will probably miss the 10-20 if you don't.

Been reading on the net that lighing is a nightmare at street level during the day, anyone care to bust this myth or is it a fact?

NYC has always been fine for me lighting wise, granted i've been using lenses that have fstops at 2.8 or lower if need be..NYC is awesome, and wide is def. the way to go

I live an hour away from NYC. I don't enjoy going there. I only go when I have to. Make sure you drop by B+H. The 18-200 should be good for some candids.
