If that is properly functioning Novatron flash gear manufactured in the last 20 years, you do not need the safe sync.

The XT will tollerate up to 250 Volts (earlier Canon DSLR cameras were only 6 Volts), and unless the Novatron gear is defective, the sync Voltage will be under 15 Volts (most likely about 10 Volts for gear more than 5 years old but less than 20 years old, and about 5 or 6 Volts for gear that is less than 5 years old).

I make this point often. Only use a safe sync if there is a specific need to do so.

They are the source of problems in addition to being a solution to problems.

Introduce them when necessary, and avoid them when they are not necessary.

No need to wear a band aid if there is no cut underneath.

As an aside, the Safe Sync that plugs directly into the Novatron HH connector is a lot less problematic than the hotshoe based one.

Enjoy! Lon
