I have just check my passport and it runs out in april I am flying out to japan the 1st of feb but someone has said it need to be valid for six months if this is right I need to get my skates on, does anyone know for FACT the right answer.

It's only recommended but I know someone that didn't get into Turkey because of it and a couple of people that have been let in to other countries as long as the passport is valid for the duration of their trip.

You should be able to get a new passport quickly - call the passport help line - google will find it, they answer 24/7.
You might need to go to a main passport office in person.
If you are not sure if Japan wants 6 months validity - email their embassy.

they say nothing about 6 months validity, just want to see that you have a return or onward ticket.

cheers steve I have googled till my eyes are sore and thought no propblem I will be ok then my boss said different so I rang a travel agent that said I did need 6 months as did our passport office , so I am really confused. I am going to try and book a appointment at the office this week and get one fast tracked.

Speak to your and the Japan embassy. They will tell you what you need to know

Do it also. The 6 months is quite often a requirement among many countries.
