View Full Version : Insect ID - perhaps an earwig?

Right now the weather isn't the best here in the Pacific Northwest, but I managed to get out and take some shots this morning. I found this little critter under a flower pot that was resting on the dirt.
I looks kind of like an earwig but all of the earwigs I have seen here are the common ones with the red head and brown body. Any ideas on what this is? What I found particularly interesting was how it raised its tail as if it were a scorpion - perhaps it uses that to scare off would be predators.

looks like a Rove Beetle, similar to Devil's Coach Horse type.

Thanks! BTW, how can I insert images in the body of the message?
