I went today to see if any loons were feeding close to shore and Instead I found a lifer, right in the area Dan (snowyowl13) had said was good habitat for the Purple Sandpiper 2 months ago. Just wish the lighting had been better, it is supposed to be sunny tomorrow so I might try again.
Also today, I upgraded my white winged crossbill photos, these males were sitting on a tree beside the road, late afternoon, overcast skies= bad lighting.
Purple sandpiper.

Great shots, Trevor. Did you climb down on the rocks to get those? They look like they were taken from a low angle.

Very nice shots Trevor. Isn't it unusual for a sandpiper to still be there? Although, maybe he's too fat to make the flight. :)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it !:D
Mitch, we don't have much if any ice along the North shore so far this year, only the rivers and bays are iced. This leaves the coast open for shorebirds, however I dont think there are many around other than the everpresent gulls.
Dan, You called it Sir! you told me that was the place to look and it sure was. Thanks for the asisst on this lifer!

We only get the Purples in winter. They choose rocky, surf washed places to forage. If we get fully iced-up they will disappear.

Nice set here trevor and I have neither bird so I am a little envious.
I was hoping some Crossbills would join our irruption of Grosbeaks, Redpolls and Waxwings bu it appears they have gone East and West...
