Im going to buy a polarizing filter and just want to clear up a ?

I want to buy one that I can use for a few lens, so I was thinking of buying the largest size for the lens I have 72mm for my sigma 17-70.

I intend to use it more with my 70-200 f4 IS as it will be much easier due to the front not rotating, its 67mm so I would also need a step up ring 67 mm to 72 mm.
My question is more to confirm if this is the best thing to do?

And will I see any fringing from the filter and step up ring sticking out to far, Im thinking it should be OK.

Is this what most of you due, b/c polarizing filters aren't cheap Id like to have a universal one that I can use for all lens and just buy cheaper step up rings to adjust.

As far as the filter Im thinking the Hoya Pro 1 CP
Thanks!

Yes, you'll need to size the filter for your largest diameter lens and get a step-up adapter for the other lenses. I have several polarizers though so I don't have to move filters when I move lenses.

Thanks, and there should be a problem with any darkness in the corners?

I don't have a 17-70 so can't say; I wouldn't expect so, FF bodies don't usually have problems with 28 mm lenses.

I have a B&W F-pro UV and CP in 77 mm, to fit my largest lens, the Tokina 16-50 2.8. I also have some step up rings, including one to fit my Sigma 17-70. The CP works just fine in the step up ring, and I don't notice any vignetting on my 20D.
