Hello all! I am a newcomer to these parts. I've spent time on other forums, but I just recently found this place. I was hoping I could post some Chicago pics for critique and review.
Thanks!

Thanks! I really enjoy that tower. I don't know if it's because of the design, location, or the fact that it's under construction.
I'm not sure if I can really call myself a Chicagoan. I live in a remote suburb. But I sure do enjoy shooting downtown if that counts for anything.

The first and last are great, like from a scifi movie. - Welcome to POTN!

I really love the coloring and effects in the first photo, however it really feels off balance
how'd you get that photo of the building under construction to look like a painting?

I use Photoshops noise reduction filter at full strength for luminesance and color noise. I also reduce the preserve details slider to 0. This really smooths over surfaces. It's great for portraits - as it still looks natural. On buildings - it creates an abstract / surreal look at times. I then sharpen back up using the unsharp filter.
While it doesn't always maintain a realistic look - I enjoy the abstract surreal affect of the filter at full strength.

My girlfriend went with me to Chicago on my last trip there. It was her first time on an airplane and her first time there. The look on her face during the cab ride from Ohare to McCormick Place was priceless. Shes never seen so many people or so much traffic in one place at one time. I think it was culture shock. She was even kinda scared to be out after dark...lol. And once she saw a rat running across the street she decided the hotel was a safer place to be.
So It was a very good trip over all.
Sorry to be OT here :(

Well, I don't miss the snow, but I miss the architecture. Many cities have big buildings, but IMHO, no city has as dramatic a skyline.
