20D vs. MKII

MKII is obviously a superior cam to 20D.

How low has the MKII price has to drop to make you want to buy the MKII instead of 20D (given all the advantages of MKII).

Which MkII :?:

In any case, I'll take any MkII over the 20D anyday. Not to bash the 20D, but your question is sort of....i dunno...

The question is not how good 1DMKII is. The operative word is "price".

Btw, if you didn't take any econ classes I'd suggest you refrain from answering the question (meant to mcouper).

Hey, don't take offense so fast!!
1-You didn't specify which MKII you're talking about in your original post, and I wanted to joke about it, and not about you!
2-I still...dunno

That's my point earlier to you

I want to buy it now. At any price. Perhaps you should re-phrase your question.

Calm down, aam1234. Your question doesn't make sense, and you flame someone for answering it. Not cool.

Thanks Scottes for the tip. And I apologize if I came in a wrong way (sorry mcouper).

What I meant is that there is a big price difference between 20D and 1DMKII. Yet the "perceived" difference in functionality of the two cams seems to be small.

So the question is, how low would the MKII price has to go down to make you want to buy it instead of 20D.

the lower the better, but i don't expect it to go below $3000 in the near future, so, for a safe bid, i'll take one RIGHT NOW for $3500

Agree with sGu. If the MKII is $3-3.5k, I'll buy one before I can blink my eye lashes (local proverb). But at $4,500, it's a bit much.

Since I do so much bird photography, the 1.3 crop of the MkII hurts a lot. That makes my 400mm lens into an effective 520mm rather than the 640mm it is now.

The AF system would be astounding for birds in flight.

But since I think that a digital camera body is "disposable" (2 years tops for me I'd say) then I can't justify the price.

So I'd have to say $2000. If I get to keep my 20D.

But that "disposable" argument applies to all cams, no?

Side note: Scottes, you and CDS are waw (in terms of birding). I tried it today, it's soo hard! and 400 my @#&%^ that's barely the minimum (including the 1.6 factor).

Scottes

Well I'm not familiar with "waw" but I seem to realize that a "Thanks" is in order. So Thanks!
:)

Birding isn't easy at first. Have you read the thread in Photography about Wildlife Tips?

And no, 400mm is not enough. Nothing ever is for birds! LOL! So go for the big, easy stuff for a while. Do you have any gulls or geese? They're perfect for starting out. Big, slow, and they don't mind humans so much.

At the price as it is right now, I would buy the MKII.
When they fix the problems with the 20D and get a nice grip for it, other then it being a small/tiny SLR it's worth it too.

I am not so sure it does... I used a pair of Pentax MX cameras for 20 years and then DIGITAL...... D60 to D1MkII in two years

Apperently the price does not need to come down at all for me... as I allready got one.

The question of course asks for a subjective answer...

So.. $4,500.00 was my answer :)

If I had the money to spare then I would get the 1DMkII even at the current price.

Reasons:
I shoot outdoors in whatever the weather happens to be, combine the 1DMkII with a 70-200 f2.8L IS and you have a very weather resistant setup.

I shoot motorsports and the faster and more accurate the AF the better.

When shooting the interesting moments in motorsport the bigger the buffer and the faster the fps the better.

A larger clearer viewfinder couldn't hurt.

If the 1D Mk II as $1000 less, I would get it in a heartbeat--or if I could find a buyer for my Mamiya MF system :D

Not sure if you are joking, but I sold all my Bronica MF kit on eBay last month and made far more money than I thought I would. In fact I was positivly rich for the 24 hours before it was reinvested in Canon glass.
