Nice images Ira!

At first glance I thought he was Tri colored. The yellow along his beak and the white along his neck make me wonder??
Could be breading colors not sure Ira?

I really enjoy photographing herons and you did a great job capturing the detail in this one. Great shots!!

Great shots of the Tricolored Heron. The plumage on the Little Blue would be much darker, without the rusty color on the back, plus, the beak would be bluish with a dark tip.

EZ and Ephily

Could be a Tri-Colored.......... Same bird below. Note that it does not have the white going down the whole under neck as you usualy see with the Tri-Colored.

Nice shots Ira. Is this with the Tamron lens? Looks like it's getting dialed in.

Thanks Mitch. Yes, it's taken with the Tamron.

It sure is a Tricolored Heron, but I believe its a juvenile which is not quite finished with molting into adult plumage. This explains the color of the legs (should be darker on adult, and greenish on Little Blue). Also, the plumage is too light for a Little Blue, and the bill is also that of a juvenile Tricolored. I think the position of the bird is what's hiding the lighter neck, but you can see a lighter chin of the Tricolored Heron.

Wow -- awesome detail as always. Tri-colored get's my vote as well.

very nice shots. Well done!
(I'm even more impressed because I've never seen any birding shots with the tamron 200-500...what do you think of this lens and birding?)

I would rather have a Canon 500mm F4, but the Tamron 200-500mm costs 1/5 the cost of the Canon, and produces some very good photos. It's much smaller than the Canon making it easy to handhold.

Beautiful Ira. I especially like the composition on the first one. Great job.

Definitely a Tricolor close to adulthood. The very red eye is another good indicator of a TCH.
