I'm thinking of a trip to Moab specifically for photography. I've contemplated going down for the Easter Jeep safari (I'm into 4x4) but not I want to get wrapped up in an activity, I just want to go to shoot. Some early mornings, some late evenings...the intention is to experience & capture the beautiful land.

I've looked at workshops which would take me to the right locales but I know the area reasonably well and I'm not sure I want to be tied down to the schedule of a workshop. On the other hand it would be great to have company from fellow photographers. So, is there anyone interested in a POTN meet in Moab, Utah for a shooting field trip?

Ideally I'd like to go when temperatures are moderate and snow sits on the Lasalle Mountains which probably means Spring, but that's short notice and needs hurry up planning. Let me know if you're interested, and if you've been and have suggestions I'll take any advice you have.

Totally interested - been wanting to go to Arches for a while. I am going to Yellowstone at some point - I haven't decided if I should go around May or later like September yet though. That may affect things.

Andrew, where are you located?
We travelled through Yellowstone 10 yrs ago but would love to go back for moose & wildlife shots, although I can get those a lot closer to home in Algonquin Park.

I would fly from Toronto to SLC then either rent a car or take transit to Moab. Either way I want to be self sufficient for transport once in Moab. I'm leaning towards renting a Jeep Wrangler to get to locations on trails. Although I have experience off-road driving I wouldn't venture far without a couple more Jeeps in the group. but I would like to get high up on the mesas for some shots. The White Rim Trail would be awesome but it would take a couple of days and driving most the time.

There's plenty to shoot without being up high but I would like some shots that aren't the typical Moab & Arches shots too. I'll query my hubby on his vacation days as he'd be staying home with the kid while I play ;)

I'm over in Colorado, so it's just a drive over the mountains to get to Moab. I don't have a 4x4 though, just a car.

Oh Stebel...May would be prefect but we did a crazy thing this week & bought a house so we're in hurry-up mode to sell ours and then move in June. Looks like Fall is better suited for me now. I may even be selling my Jeep (modified '03 Rubicon). She never gets to go anywhere any more since we had the kid and it makes me sick to see her just sitting...will be even sicker seeing her be driven away though :(

BTW - nice videos...isn't Moab awesome!

Drive the jeep down and sell it to me, then fly back :P

Been wanting one but I'll probably end up with something more practical like an Xterra or something. Those jeeps just don't have much cargo room.

We have a Rubicon Unlimited and have gone on vacation with 4 adults and gear. In Utah it tends to be more trail friendly than the larger vehicles. You could always add a rack to carry a cooler etc outside.

I've got a Pilot, too, and though pretty capable it's just too large to wander small trails.

I've got to get my Jeep to Moab, Fall might work. Bring this back up during the Summer.

Pay me enough and it's a deal!

Hmmm, Win you have the right thought process. A bunch of POTNr's hauling around Moab in Jeeps taking pics in the Fall. I wonder if that's do-able for me.

I hate you guys. I want a jeep.

Just isn't practical for me. I'd need like a Grand Cherokee or something.

Let me know what type of shots you are looking for then I will gladily steer you in the right direction, Don't come during the Annual Jeep safari or the Rod Benders car show, there are no rooms availabe and it's a madhouse then. I have only lived here for 41 years and recently started photography. I know the area well.
