Quick selection from a bill at York Hall last night...
Slightly disappointed with this one as I just couldn't the shot I wanted in a very crowded ring... but suffice it to say that some boxers make an entrance in some bizarre head gear...

Many thanks for looking. EXIF should be intact throughout. Comments, as always, welcomed.
Cheers!

Great shots! The SCREAM mask in #1 is my favourite! LOL! that's so original !
I notice you used both the MK2N and MK3. I currently have a MK2N and am contemplating getting the Mk3 for my low light shooting. How did the Mk3 perform by comparison, both at the event, and afterward for image quality.

Nice pics gavin, saw you looking away when deacon nailed Mitchell in the first.
Its annoying when there are so many photographers that you cant move. Lose some weight and it might be easier :D

The Mk3 certainly has an ISO advantage which is very useful in low light - you can pretty much double your ISO on the MkIII for equivalent noise when compared to the MkII(N). You also have the very handy intermediate settings of ISO2000 and ISO2500.
The AF shows signs of improvement over earlier bodies... but, then again, I still get good results with my MkII(N) bodies.
In PP, the MkIII images are very nice to handle. There certainly seems to be a bit more dynamic range to play with - a purely unscientific, touchy-feely observation on my part

Deakin nailing Mitchell, eh?... I was a wee bit late on it and way too tight as he fell, but here it is anyway...

Thanks gmen. #6 is actually my favourite action shot. LOVE the sweat!
For me, the MK2N has been out of this world for normal light, but not nearly as good for low light stage shots (bodybuilding). I hear the Mk3 really locks focus well in low light. I assume you used the 24-70 for the close ups and 70-200 for the distance shots? That looks like so much fun!

Thanks G Man. I might go see on the week of the fight, hopefully test the mark 3 then.

The MkIII certainly performs well in low light. You don't really see the difference at a televised boxing show... but I have seen an advantage under some of the candles that masquerade as football ground floodlights!

Having said that, there was a good turnout at York Hall on Saturday. KM certainly enjoyed himself...

Dontcha' love shooting the televised cards? Enough light to work with and there are enough characters around to get some interesting environment shots. These are a very nice set ... would be nice to have the names of the fighters doing the splooshing and splatting but aren't familiar with everyone participating. So, how'd the old man with the beard make out? :-)

Dris, what happened to the N----n. I thought you were going to the darkside.
Oh yea. Gavin what happened to the old guy in the 3rd & 4th pics. He seems a bit older than his opponent.

Chrisvl. the D3's are impossible to find, at least a month away.
So, I may go with a Mk3. I need slightly better low light AF and noise control so the Mk3 hopefully won't let me down.

All the bout details are in the IPTC data for everyone to see via their jolly Opanda EXIF viewers... but I'll make sure I pop the names in the thread in future. Point taken ;)
The bearded chap (a journeyman opponent), sadly, lost.

Thanks for posting the photos, Gavin. Your timing always seems to be so good, I've read where the shots with the sweat flying are really alot tougher to get than it seems like it would be, but you always nail those.
I'd love to try shooting some boxing some time just to see what it's like.

I'd love to try shooting some boxing some time just to see what it's like. Thanks very much wesley. Generally it's easier to get the 'sweat' flying early in the round. The boxers are often sprayed with water between rounds and it's those water droplets that make for the biggest splosh!
