Am I wrong when I tought that G1 takes a 12 bit pictures (RAW)? When using Yarc to convert pictures to TIFs, it doesn't make differ to use 8 or 16 bit mode. I allways get images at size 9MB. Why's that?

Thanks,
Stenu

SOmewhere (rec.photo.digital, or dpreview) it says the G1 can handle, or record, 10-bit images, but it only puts out 8-bit AFAIK. Chris Breeze (BreezeBrowser) and Bruce Henderson (Yarc) seem to only be able to get 8-bits out of the files, so maybe even 10-bits is dreamland. I've never heard of 12-bit, but I think the D-30 has higher image bits (?)

cheers

As far as I know, nobody has figured out the Canon G1 RAW format enough to decode it without using Canon-provided code. So even though the G1 Raw format claims (and most probably is) 10 bits internally, the Canon API only transfers 8.
