The way I see it at the top end line there is need for 2 bodies, one a high mpx FF studio camera and one a low-mid mpx FF action camera for low light work, fast action, great DR even at high ISO, fast AF.
We have the 1Ds but the 1D lost the ulrawide end with the crop factor.

What I guess, with the help of CANON's CEO's speech.
5DmkII, at 5D's current price point, will serve as entry FF body.
3D, higher price, will come around the middle of year, with 1d3n.
3D should be able to satify the need of enthusiastic photographers: a high end body with balanced ability.
i have doubt if crop mode available for higher FPS.
1d3n will serve as an ultmate tool in sports- higher FPS and 16 bit needed, otherwise no place for it to survive and 1ds3n next year for studio

Based from what I've heard from a friend that Canon is really scare now after 1Dmk3 AF snafu. They don't want to release new cameras before technicians confirming AF is working pefrectly.

That would be a good idea! My theory is that Canon hurried the 1D3 out to market because they knew that the Nikon D3 was coming and they wanted to commit as many shooters as possible. I think that it was put on the market a bit too quickly.

Canon used to be top of the line DSLR. Now their position is not standing the same way like years ago. They left with only the cheapest FF (5D) and the highest mpx studio camera (1Ds3). They lost the entrylevel, midlevel and general pro photographer top of the line positions. There was a time when each release of Canon's "tools" were a big step forward in digital photography, now there is only the echo.

ditto
Whereas before, they stifled new features on most offerings trying to protect their pro bodies (1D's). Now they have to keep up with aggressive competition and offer more than they are willing to add. New models for release this year should leapfrog and be cutting edge or they loose to competition across all levels, except the 1Ds MKIII Hi-MP camera.

My mind is telling me you can sell 5-6 less expensive bodies and earn more then 2 1Ds bodies. It's easier to sell a less expensive body. It's much more marketing to comit a user to a system by making small steps then force him to make a huge step.
I don't need 21 mpx; I assume the price point is due to the hard way manufacturing such big sensors. But I do need fast AF, good metering system. So why would i buy a 1ds.
There is 1D but I need a FF. There is 5D but the lack of advanced AF, proper metering for such a camera is making me go crazy.
Why Canon is pissing me off ?? !!!

If the 5D mkII gets improved AF, buy that and a lightmeter and you're all set!

Lost entry level to what? Certainly not a D40X that is slower FPS, less AF points, and cannot even AF at all with the majority of Nikkor lenses.....

Image quality like colors, DR i find still better, close to natural tones at Canon sensors. This is why I still shoot Canon. I wish Nikon try to develop in camera processing for film look.
