View Full Version : Tape crop lines on EOS focus screen

I would like to mark 4x5 / 8x10 crop lines on the focusing screens of two EOS-3s and a 1D.

I have read posts from Nikon users about using thin drafting tape on their screens with success. Some EOS users on other forums said they marked lines with a razor, pencil, or sharpie.

I have heard that the lines on Canon’s architectural grid screen approximate the 8x10 format. But, I would like to try the drafting tape first, because it would be very visible, removable, and inexpensive. However, I am concerned I may block a sensor. I also wonder if the tape should go on the bottom (mirror side), or the top (prism side) of the screen.
Has anybody tried this on any EOS camera? Which side of the screen do you stick the tape to?

Also, how difficult is it to remove and replace the screen without Canon’s tool to do this with?

Thanks,
