I have a fair few more images to process, but have been busy with backing up data over the past few weeks, as well as preparing for my new PC (Intel Quadcore 6600, 8gb Geil RAM, 2 x 500gb WD hard drives in Raid 1, you get the drift ;-) )

The second pic - guessing a crop from the first one - is incredibly clear and sharp Dave and a superb shot.
The nose looks like the front of a little jet lol.
Linda
Oooh, the pc sounds rather major :-)

Niiice. What a great shot! What lens did you use to take this? I just got a 60mm macro for jewelry and I'd have to get pretty close to get a shot like that.

Great shot Dan. What a strange looking creature. I wonder what advantages such a beak provides.

Thanks guys :)
Brian - it could very well be. I tried to google for it last night, but couldn't find anything and gave up after ten minutes. I wonder if I should post this to diptera.org? I spotted one of these flies last May when I came up here to my parents place for a few days, but didn't get a decent shot. I have a few more shots of this beauty that I haven't processed yet, but will when I get the chance.

Suspect it would be worth posting it on diptera.info but don't forget to mention where you are :)
