I am in the market for a 77mm CP filter for my 24-70L. Prices for the filter are all over the ballpark. Any filter brands I should avoid?

Thanks

Spend the most you can afford, IMHO. You spent a lot on that lens, why not do it justice?

I *strongly* suggest the Multi-Coated ones since the coating help reduce or eliminate the reflections and such from the extra piece of glass. I have a Hoya Super HMC which is as good as the lenses I put it on. It's superb.

The price, however, is less than perfect. :D
B&H: $156 for the regular (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=116783&is=REG) or $173 for the thin (which probably isn't necessary for digital, and may be a pain in the neck since you can't put another filter over it).

I have the same and strongly agree with all of the above.

I wouldn't know which ones NOT to buy, but I can recommend one that I really like and have on all my lenses for scenics/landscapes.

Very nice filter. I generally get them on ebay much cheaper than what he sells them for.

FWIW, I use a B&W CP. As has already been said, Don't put cheap glass in front of expensive glass.,

Tiffen and Hoya multi-coateds are good, B&W is the best. Everything else is at your own risk.
