hello,

went and took a bunch of photos that i thought would come out great but they came out much darker than what the lcd image showed i had to add 3 screen layers on average to get the color but i don't think the color is even close to what i thought i was getting according to the lcd.

How do i know what exposures to use when there is such a difference between actual image and lcd image?

Never use the LCD image to judge exposure. Use the histogram. Set your Review option to On(info). There are numerous tutorials on reading a histogram. Here's One (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/understanding-series/understanding-histograms.shtml)

As Scott stated, the LCD image is a pretty bad way to judge image brightness. For one thing, the apparent image brightness varies tremendously between being viewed straight-on and being viewed off axis by 45 degrees.
