I'm new to the whole world of grown up cameras, SLR's.
And this was my first day out actualy shooting something I wanted good pictures of with my new 20D:
Camera: A+ Wow, the speed and control was phanominal, why did I wait so long to get something mroe than a point and clicker?
Lens (18-55 kit lens): C Soft and none too impressive. I feel like I got myself a ferrari and put a pinto motor in it.
No worries though a new lens will be picked up soon, I'm jst trying to descide what I want. :)

Looks like a good picture to me. I'm sure you may even be able to sell that one to a media outlet.

I had that lens on my 300D, and it really was ok for wide angle when stopped down.
I just got th same camera yesterday, and I agree, Wow, it's fast and the controls are very intuitive.
Also, I agree with OviV, great picture. Take it to some media, and let us know what happens 8)

I was just wondering the same thing... in the past I've taken some photos that I wondered if my local newspaper, at least, would like to use.... but how would one go about approaching a news media to sell them one of your photos? And which places would be good to do this with?

Is the shell on the 20D metal-ish feeling?
I recently just got back into photography, I purchased a Elan 7N kit and a 75-300mm IS lens. (had the Pentax K back in the day.)
I just recently picked up a film scanner too. But the urg to go fully digital nags at me every day. (Wife has an older FinePix)
A buddy of mine has a digital-Rebel, but I love the feel and control of the Elan in my hands so much better then the D-Rebel.
But I think the Rebel is the only real DSLR in my price range. When ever I look at the price for a 10D or 20D I think I'd be better served with a 24-70L lens.
I so love my Elan, its price was very nice too compared to digital :D
Too bad you just can't get a digital back for well love 35mm :P

i have an elan 7n also, but after 5 or 6 darkroom sessions, between chemicals, paper, and film...it easily adds up to the price of a 300d...
the 20d feels great, i loved my 300d then i got my elan 7n and realized that the 300d really isnt worth jumping over, it lacks a ton of features....its pro's is that it takes good quality pictures and has a great price tag to accompany it...but the AF system sucks so bad...so i traded it in and ordered a 20d...fingers crossed it will live up to my elan in the field, im sure it will though

Oh yeah, that is a poorly composed image - the main subject is shown too far to the left

Were you wearing a Kerry T-shirt? How did you get so close to the Perez?

The 20D feels great. I have a friend with a 1Ds, and the 20D feels liek a baby 1Ds. Solid as can be. Of course the grip nas a rubberized coating so your not gripping metal directly.
Here's a picture that shows how close I was:

It's a crummy picture exposure wise and all that, but I had only had my 20D a couple days and I'm still learning. Maybe I should have left it in auto, but I'd rather mess up a few early, then get great ones later, then get 'okay' pictures forever.
For reference I was using the kit lens at 18mm for these shots, so no zoom involved. I was in the second row, and if I had been willing to step over an old lady I could have been in the front. :)
One of the problems I ran into was that for most of the day I had to shoot 'into' the sun. And that seemed to show off my picture quality a lot, as you're essentialy trying to capture shadows... Anyone have any good tips for shooting into the sun? Not At the sun it self, but at subjects with the sun behind them...
There are a few examples in the quick web gallery I threw up for friends here:

I think that 18-55 is fair in terms of sharpness, but contrast is poor. However, in my opinion, it produces reasonable results when stopped down f/8-f/11. It's the only way I use it, and only at 18mm.

I have to agree, I was dissapointed with the 18-55 lens, having broke the bank buying the camera and now saving for an L,
I bought a 50mm F1.8 meantime for very little money, way sharper :)

You'll love the 20D. I have a brand new one for $1350, (only 20 pics on it) including the grip two batteries and box, software, manual, etc. Thought I had it sold, but the guy bagged on me.
