Guys,

Normally i download images from a CF card to my Mac via a card reader and then edit the shots.
The saved (edited) files are either uploaded and printed by online services or i burn them to CD to take to the lab.
The lab i use has a unit on the counter with a monitor,cd drive and various flash card readers to load your files into their system.

Now then, what i would like to do is this:

Download images from the CF to the Mac and edit with photoshop. Then save them back to the CF card using the Mac and just take the CF card to the lab. This way it saves me burning CD's all the time.

BUT IT NEVER WORKS...WHY? The labs unit cannot see the files i saved on the card. I have tried this process with a PC and different labs without success. Can you help or explain why?

Jon

I do this all the time with my PC. However, when I save the pictures back to the card, I have always put them in the root directory and not in the subdirectories that the camera created. I'm not sure if their machine will look in all directories since I have never done it that way. They also have the '.jpg' extension on them. Since I rename them with a different date code, if I put the card back in the camera, the camera won't recognize the pics but those photo machines have always located the pictures. Try the root directory if you aren't doing it that way.
Hope this helps.

I also do this all the time without trouble. I always use my computer to format the card first, and I put the image files in the root directory of the card. However, I'm not sure that that is necessary, because the kiosk (Fuji Aladdin) says something like "searching directories..."

Is it important to make sure that the file has the .jpg extension? It seems like it should work without it, but it might be worth a try. What about a .jpeg extension? Could that cause problems?

I have also done this. I edit and save back to the card. I have found one way to view them however.....my Flashtrax will show them eventhough my camera will not. Why?....beyond my technical skills.

I've done this with a Mac a bunch of times. As others have said, I put them at the root level and save them as .jpg files.

Mac OS X, being unix-based, creates some files with the "_" character at the beginning of the name, which are unreadable by some of these systems (you don't need them anyway--just skip over them.)

The place I've done this has a system that runs on a PC with Windows. It may be that the place you're going to needs to upgrade their software.

BTW, I just got back from 2 weeks in Rocky Mtn Natl Park in Colorado. Only took about 1300 shots. Hope to post some of 'em here soon.

I've had problems with some labs that can't read a 512MB or larger card, but can read smaller ones.
A *.jpg vs *.jpeg file might make a difference, too.
