We had some sunshine and a break from the rain today, alas the track was muddy but we had some fun. I had my first try at shooting actual Downhilling. I didn't think they were to bad for a first set.

All shots with EOS 350d, 18-55 kit because risking the 50mm f/1.4 just wasn't worth it in the mud today. Each shot was 1/250th of a second, except for the blurred one which was 1/80th. Iso was 200 and apeture was varying from 3.5 up to 5.6. I honestly cant remember for each.

Enjoy and as always c&c is greatly appreciated.

Love them, wish I had the patience to carry my gear with me whilst riding!

Did you is off camera flashes? If so which ones?

Cheers

Thanks! Im glad you like them.

The flash is onboard but mounted to the hotshoe. Its a really old Sunpak auto 114 that my dad had when he was into photography with his old film slr. Im really liking the flash. Looks to me about early to mid 90s but I can't find any info about it. It is a good flash, and works really well.

I think a few of them are a bit dark, Sam. The panned one however, is very cool. Could do with a bit of a crop to get he rider off-centre, though. Probably crop from the top and right.

Thanks Leitch, I though I did try and have the rider off centre but I felt that it didn't have the same effect. Do you have any idea how ben got that effect how the blur is linear and goes straight with the rider. I will have a look for a pic.

Edit: Like this:

(this isn't my pic guys, its Ben Hew's)

My guess would be same sort of thing but instead of panning, bring it towards me a the same speed as the rider and halfway through fire the shutter?

Zoom out as the rider comes towards you.

Hi just found this thread through Google when I was looking for more info on the Sunpak Auto 114. Nice shots - I really like http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2372/2194017607_93bbb0180f_b.jpg

Just a warning - I don't know if it's a problem with a 40d, but the I have the same flash (also an old one given me by my dad) and I measured 208 volts across the hot shoe terminals when it's charged, so I don't use it mounted directly to my 400d. Lots of people seem to worry about voltages over about 6-12v eventually damaging the flash trigger circuits on the camera body. Might not be an issue with a 40d, I don't know - apologies if you already know about this and it turns out I'm wasting your time.
