Hello, I have the 1.40 fw in my 1D. Is there any change Canon will bring out a new fimware with some of the functions of the 10D and such ? I know the 300D has a hack, I doubt there is something for the 1D.
Especially I like the simple things like auto rotate and such, can't be hard for smart people at Canon to bring this into a firmware.
They would make a lot of people happy with some new functions in their topmodel camera's who are not that old enough to replace.
thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, 'Auto-Rotate' is not just a firmware issue. There is a sensor in the camera that is required to make it work, and I don't believe the 1D has it.
Ver. 1.4 is the latest listed on the Canon website.

Tom is right, the auto rotate is a hardware function based on a sensor.
What other features would you want?
To be honest the chances of a modded 1D firmware are about the same as snow in hell. It is a professional camera and professionals cannot risk usinf firmware that may not be 100% stable so there is really no market for a hack.

I kind of miss the horrid focusing in AI Servo...will there be a hack to bring that back?

Other features, like zoom and what is currently in new models. There is so many equipment on the market where you can add functions into with a new firmware, why should this not be the case for this level of camera?
Maybe Canon can make the differance to add with a firmware new functions while there competition does not....

Peter:
Canon would be very unlikely to retrofit a camera like the 1D to incorporate features of the Mk II. They want you to buy the Mk II.

true, ofcourse but I am happy with my 1D, it really made a differance on some whale watching trips I did some weeks ago, on high speed it is really a fun machine to have.
I shot some pictures of an orca breaching out of the water and lucky I was shooting in high speed, so I have everything in the breach (jumping out of water..).
Ofcourse Canon is afer my money with showing these new features, but maybe they should consider fact I am willing to pay (a little) money for a new firmware if it is worth while.
thanks,
