A mild-mannered dog by day (unless you try to steal her toys), Nikki springs into action and soars through the air on some dog-oriented mission:

Here's our little angel (yeah right!)
This is Emma Lou...We sometimes call her Emmy Loser :)
She's actually figured out that if we won't get up off the couch to get what she wants, she'll scratch at the patio door knowing that we'll get up off the couch to let her out to go potty. Once we're up, she runs over to show us what she really wanted in the first place! Too smart!
(Sorry, these were taken before I bought my 40D)

Sasha is very patient with us. She lets us do things to her even as she sleeps and she does not wake up angry or upset. We love her for it. BTW she sleeps in our bed everynight under our covers.

I love the diginity in the second image. I always liked the wire-hair version of the breed esp when they have a slightly more hairer face like Jack Daniels. Gives the dog a lot of character and demeanor.
My family saved Sasha from being put down because its original teenage owner had a heart transplant operation and the surgeon insisted on him not having any pets in the house. I have no idea why. She is our first JRT. Before, we used to keep Beagles - for many years.
We all fell in love with her the first moment we saw her. She is not a show breed standard but we love her to bits because of her indomitable character. Also of course my wife just adores and spoils her. :-(
She has been with us for over a year now and she gets all and most of the attention. :-(

Just a quick survey here:
Do your Jack Russells lie on the floor with their back legs sticking out the back (pads upwards) like chicken drumsticks?
Mine does, as have our previous two! I have only ever seen Jack Russells do this, but I expect other breeds do it too.

Oddly enough our Jack Russell does exactly that. We had a Corgi a number of years ago who did that too.

Thanks to everyone else who replied. I wondered if it was a Jack Russell thing, but it looks as if some other breeds do it too! Jack Russells often have a bit of Corgi in them, so interesting to hear about the Corgis doing it too.

Well we're off to the JRTCA Trial/Show this weekend. Sugar is competing (she won 4th place ribbon in GTG last year - her first time competing, not bad for a rescue dog who's never had any practice at these things). I'll try and get something posted after we get back.

This was year two for trials for our rescue "Sugar". She did a lot better then last year when she had her behind facing the front in the racing box. She bolted right out leaving some dust behind at the start of the race and was actually tied for first in the 2nd race until 3/4 down to the finish where she got nervous about entering the little hole through the bales of hay. She might place next time but it was fun seeing her progress.
Here's a couple pics taken with my Canon 17-85mm 4-5.6 IS USM lens early in the morning with 1600 ISO... shutter speed around 1/800.

We went camping over Memorial Day weekend at Bodega Bay, California (USA), which was weekend before last. Dogs had a great time running on the beach and in the bay. During low tide the bay becomes a dirty, wet playground for the dogs who ran to their hearts content, chasing birds, digging for clams and crunching on crab shells.
Here's Opie in the bay during low tide.
276834
Now for something different.... the very next day as we were getting things ready for our trip back home, we had the dogs tethered nearby relaxing on the dunes/beach sand. During that time (unknown to us until much later) Opie ate some sand that we believed was covered in bacon grease (why else would he eat sand??) carelessly tossed away by a previous camper during breakfast (we found cracked egg shells in the area also). He later developed a nasty belly ache and experienced vomiting. We wasted no time and rushed him to the ER Vet who eventually had to perform surgery to remove the intestinal obstruction caused by about 1 cup of sand!!! So watch your little JRT's... ours sure gave us a scare!
Here's what he looked like 3-days post surgery. He was a bit groggy, but has been a very good boy during his recovery. He looks much better today and in a week will have the staples removed (all 10).

Here is El Marvo ( Marvin). I have not contributed in a while and felt the need to post up. Great pictures from everyone.
Wow, amazing how similar your dog looks to one of our rat terriers, except for the docked tail. Is yours a Jack Russell or a rattie?
Here is Blitz (3/4 rat terrier, 1/4 aussie shepherd):

Thank you Willy & Mike, he is all better now and had staples removed 8 days ago... left a nasty scar but it will be covered once the hair grows back in. Poor Opie got hit with a double whammy though. His best buddy since he was just 7 weeks old, and our companion for 14 years passed away a week after he got his surgery and just one day before his staples were removed. He has been grieving for his buddy for a few days but seems to be getting slightly better as of yesterday. We took him Kayaking for the very first time which seemed to help get his mind off of Jake.
Here's a photo I took of him which was heartbreaking. He pulled his big bed (originally bought for Jake who never used it) up to the sliding glass door and positioned it so one of the ends could part the blinds... he lay there for 2 days looking out the window waiting for his buddy to come back home. He has never done this before. These guys are too much like humans...

This is probably the last photo taken of Jake where he is checking on Opie after surgery. He was so kind to Opie and actually taught him a lot of things when he was a puppy. Opie used to be really mean to him and Jake would just take his abuse... lol. I'm sure he is missing having someone to pick on too. Jake was a wise, sweet and gentle soul and will be deeply missed.

That's really sad :-( It's nice that your Jake got to impart some of his wisdom before he passed away though. It sounds as if Opie is qualified to take on a management role, just in case you happened to get him a little trainee ;-)

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Opie is doing better but I have to admit he's not the same goof-ball he once was. It seems that the recent experiences have changed him... oh he's still sweet and fun, but he sure seems to be listening and thinking a lot more than he did before the recent turn of events. I know he is still wondering what happened to Jake and when he'll be back, and I try to tell him that he's gone bye-bye and is in Happy Heavenly Acres and one day he'll see him again followed by lots of kisses and hugs... I tell him Jake is a good boy and is doing ok. It is really amazing... dogs don't seem to forget those that are special to them.
Well thought you'd like to see... Opie went out kayaking again. I shot this photo from my kayak... I had the lighter JRT (Sugar) with me until I get more used to this new adventure we are pursuing. I'm afraid Opie's 20 lbs may tip us over if he jumps to swim and I have to pull him in again. But he'll be kayaking with me as soon as I get brave enough... we are best buddies. He had a lot of fun... and really enjoys jumping from the kayak to take a swim.

Going to be brave and make my first post. I haven't had my 350d for an awfully long time, so I'm still learning and practicing... but here I go. The first 2 were taken with the kit lens, the 3rd and 4th with a sigma 55-200mm.
A few of my Jack Russell Eddie and his friend Hazel (owned by my sister, who breeds said dogs). Hazel's a Jack Russell 'proper', Eddie's a Lakeland Terrier x Jack Russell, hence the all over brown colour.

This is Jip, He's just turned 19. He puts this 34 year old to shame. He is fitter than me. Apart from a slight case of arthritis he is fit as a fiddle. He actually thinks he's a puppy, and runs around the house like a mad dog. His favourite trick is to run and jump on the sofa and dive off it onto his bean bag, repeatedly until he is told not to. He is mad, but we love him.

Jacks are great dogs. We like to go to the JRTCA's National Trials in October. This was taken there.

BigC, Nikki and Gator could be clones...now if I could just get a photo of him out from under his bankieDon't give up: I've been photographing Nikki for years, so much so that whenever she sees the camera she poses for it (since she knows that she soon will be getting a treat if she behaves).

Love all the "pretty" pictures. But we all know that looks can be deceiving, especially when it comes to JRT's. How baaaad are yours?

Here's our Rat Terrier, Jerzy. (Both grabbed with a SONY DSC-P72 PnS). He has a birth defect of an underbite. He looks mean and takes the place of a car alarm or security guard. People don't want to come close to him because he always looks so fierce! LOL He's a doll. A ravenous doll ... 13 pounds of solid muscle and can he E-A-T!! Whew!!

very nice JR guys. One question. For the few that I have met, they act like they have drank coffee 24/7. Are they always like this?

Thank you! I Googled a background and "borrowed" it for the composite. I just had to match the color temp of the back image and then do a few twists and turns along the way. :D
