Mix in a bit of JR into any dog and you can certainly trace it by the air they have.

"Jack Russell Terriers are a type, or strain, of working terrier; they are not purebred in the sense that they have a broad genetic make-up, a broad standard, and do not breed true to type. You will see different "types" of JRTs, from long-bodied, short, crooked legs to a more proportioned length of body and longer legs. This is a result of having been bred strictly for hunting since their beginning in the early 1800's, and their preservation as a working breed since. " Quoted from the JRTCA (http://www.terrier.com/breed/history.php4).

The black terrier looks like a Patterdale Terrier which is a type of Fell Terrier. You could say a Patterdale is a black Fell Terrier, and a Jack Russell is a (predominantly) white Fell Terrier. They are closely related, although not the same by definition.

It's been a while since I posted in here, but we did actually find out her Mom was a Jack Russell/Patterdale cross, and her Dad was a JRT, so she's 75% JRT.

Thanks! I'll pass the compliment on to her ... she needs all the support now that we have a new puppy in the house, hence the grumpiness. Nikki will be 13 years old in November, and she is definitely showing her age, she is really going white in her face (she used to be all brown).

Bless them eh :lol: Bonnie would hate a new puppy addition, what have you gone for?We brought home a Mini Daschund that we've named Rudolf (I posted several threads). We thought a male puppy would be better, since Nikki hates females, but so far not so much ... Rudy has endured three attacks by the old grump, nothing major, just a lot of barking and bearing of teeth. The young pup is undeterred, as he still wants to play with Nikki.

Yea Borders are like that,always on the go. Mine has Springer Spaniel in her I think, she never stops,and has liver spots on her legs and side. Oh and she loves going in the water!

Here's Jersey again. I worked hard to get the right fill-flash and ambient light. I think I got it ... I'm pleased with the lighting balance. Of course, Jersey didn't mind what the heck I was doing as long as he could be in his "perch!" His ears tucked back kept a watchful eye. ;-)

Here's Jersey again. I worked hard to get the right fill-flash and ambient light. I think I got it ... I'm pleased with the lighting balance. Of course, Jersey didn't mind what the heck I was doing as long as he could be in his "perch!" His ears tucked back kept a watchful eye. ;-)

Ours has his "perch" too that he needs to be on. Ours likes to be right on back of the couch/futon.

Yay! People that understand the insanity that is owning a JRT! This is Hootie! He is one of those special kinds of dogs. His obsession with tennis balls is unhealthy, but I can tell you that if I have a tennis ball, I never need a leash. He's always entertainment at the dog park, but all in all, he's the best dog I've ever had :)

Those are funny. He looks fun.
We have a 1/2 Jack, 1/2 Yorkie named Roberta ('Berta for short). She looks more like a poor quality Yorkie, but I always say she has a Jack Russell brain. Can't get it out of them!

My family just adopted a Jack Russel / Akita mix named Roxie on wed night, from a family that couldn't afford to keep it anymore.. I heard they were great family dogs and have tons of energy.. I think she's a little sad and withdrawn about the change of family.. but she's doing really good so far !

Nice Thread!
My family have had 3 Jack Russel Terrier's, though the last of them died 12 years ago & we haven't had a Dog since. As I didn't have a Digital Camera when we had the Russels, Here is a digital scan of a Photo of Patch, the original was taken with my 35mm Canon EOS10 & Sigma 400mm f5.6. Not strictly within the spirit of the Forum, but I am not the first to post such an image on this thead so I hope no-one objects!

Really sad to say, but we had to have Daisy put to sleep last month :( she was a few weeks away from her 21st birthday, but her quality of life rapidly deteriorated, and it was the final thing we could do for her. Looking at this thread reminds me how much I miss her.

We were hoping to find her gone in her sleep 1 morning, but got to the point where it had to be done :(

Thank you. I bought him for my dad for his birthday a few years ago. He has always wanted a JRT and he finally got one. It was a tough choice between Bauer and a female JRT, but the female's coloring and markings weren't as good looking.

Its like losing a family member, so so sad when the time comes.

Its so much worse when you have to do it on a certain day etc, so much better when they go in their sleep. Crying my eyes out saying goodbye to her on the day :(
