His name is Curtis.

These are pictures when things are going well. If things are going wrong I don't have time for pictures .... instead I am running after him yelling and trying to save the chickens/sheep before he terminates them or viceversa:D

No longer part of my life, but a good friend who I miss every single day. A wonderful model who took great direction and always was there to help me test out a new lens.

Bedroom eyes were his directions here

Asked him for a regal look here

Just a snapshot of him and his girlfriends, the palimino followed him everywhere.

Asked him to look tough

I don't know if she's allowed here....she's a JackRat, half Jack Russel and half Rat Terrorist and will not cooporate for a proper photo to be taken of her- Maggie May turned 1yo this Cristmas and was a gift from a very dear friend of the family to my three sons. She has since banded with the only other female in the house and now is my wife's dog with the job of killing all stray socks that she can find.

I love number 4! That just about sums them up, as does number 8, with the filth and skidmarks all down the side!

Very strange ears for a Jack Russel on number 5 though!

MM3 - That is beautiful dog, i caught eating a bar of soap the other day lol, she didn't really want it, but she bloody well didn't want anybody else to have it!

Mike - Thanks again:) I do love her. Number 5 is my gf's dog, she is half jack russel, and then abot 10 other breeds lol, but she is very nice, if not getting a little old now:(

Yanchula - Lovely action shots of a very nice looking dog!

I'm looking forward to seeing lots of other Jack Russells in this thread! :-D The ones posted so far are lovely.

That's hilarious about the bar of soap!

I'm going to get some proper photos of Reggie to post in here. I have loads of him, but they are mostly of when he is in bed. It often happens when I go out to the kitchen at night, then have to sneak back out and get the camera whilst trying not to laugh, because I've discovered him asleep in some ridiculous position.

I'm looking foward to seeing all the dogs too, we have to keep this thread updated lol!

There was a long-legged Jack Russell down the beach the other week, tearing up and down at full speed. I think it must have been doing about 35mph!

I call the long-legged ones off-road Jack Russells because they have better ground clearance!

Mike

willy b

Lmao Mike that really did make me laugh!!!! I do know what you mean though! We used to have a short legged one, but he was mad, just used to go off in the distance.
I'll never forget i was out mountaineering with my dad, he was just looking through the binoculars when he saw a white dog, upon closer inspection it was out dog, he found a rabbit, and was running after it, took about an hour for him to come back lol

Haha! Typical Jack Russell! My one has caught 39 rabbits in the back garden since June 1999.

Jack Russells often have really cool names! I've just been thinking through the names of the ones that I have known; some of them working dogs, the rest of them pets:

Nipper, Dipper and Ripper (these were gamekeepers' dogs).

Then there was Ronnie, Scum and JCB. No prizes for guessing how JCB got his name! I remember Ronnie eating a pot of yoghurt once. And when I say pot of yoghurt, that included the pot.

Mike

Nipper, Dipper, and Ripper. LOL. Scum? LMAO

willy b
17th of January 2008 (Thu), 15:02
Ripper, that is a classic!

Bonnie (mine), Charlie, Pip
Not really "hard" names, but there you go lol! I'm going to call my next one dipper!

Mike-DT6
17th of January 2008 (Thu), 15:14
I love the weird behaviour you always get with them. With our first Jack Russell (Jasper), if you said 'cats!' to him, instead of going out into the garden to look for a cat he used to go out into the garden and bark at the ground, then start digging furiously.

He would continue barking as he was digging, but because it was difficult to bark whilst digging in the conventional manner, he would dig with both front paws at the same time, rather than alternate paws, barking as his paws hit the ground on the downstroke! He looked like a faster and hairier version of one of those oil pumps you get in oil fields. It was one of the most hilarious things I had ever seen!

Mike

Mike-DT6
17th of January 2008 (Thu), 15:19
Our second Jack Russell (Monty) used to go absolutely berserk if I looked at him to get his attention, then pointed at the door of whichever room I was in, so long as my index finger was actually touching the door. He wouldn't do anything if I left a gap!

Mike-DT6
17th of January 2008 (Thu), 15:25
Our current Jack Russell (Reggie) will start howling like a wolf if I get his attention (get eye contact), then say to him, 'Did you . . . .?' and phrase it as an obvious question. He only goes mad if you say the first bit. If you ask him a complete question he doesn't do anything.

Then once he has started howling I can gather him up and turn him upside-down, holding him like a set of bagpipes (still howling) and create a vibrato effect by rubbing his throat - in the same way you would create a vibrato when playing a cello.

willy b
17th of January 2008 (Thu), 15:26
Mine is the same with cats, rats, hats, mats, pats, bats, can you see a pattern hear lol. She runs to the door, and then goes hunting for 30mins, she has only ever got one rat lol

If you say "now then" Bonnie will jump up bark and you and then follow your every setp.

I think Jack russels are very very clever dogs!

Dylan with the ball in the water is heart-wrenching. Much love.

My friend has a golden lab and that dog is SMART. Fantastic animal, much smarter than any of our (4) dogs. Luckily, Marvin can't read ( yet), so he won't be be PO'd.

The sock is MIA. May it rest in piece(s).:)

Mike-DT6
17th of January 2008 (Thu), 21:49
Dogs usually learn to read when they are puppies. It happens when you put newspaper down in the kitchen. Most people think that it is just for house-training the puppy, but in fact they can learn to read from it as well.

Sorry to hear about the sock. Even if you did manage to grab the end of it when Marvin went past it would end up being about fifteen feet long, so it was a dead loss as soon as he got hold of it.

This is Leia and her puppies back in 2000. yeah, I was like 13 when we named her and was heavy into star wars. But I figured she's all white with brown ears, so what the hey. She is about 11 years old now, we didn't keep any of the puppies, all went to good homes though. But there were 2 females and 2 males. It was the most fun I've had with dogs in my life. JR puppies are the most adorable puppies I've seen. The pics are of low quality but here they are:

I love it when they can't go along any further because they simply go up instead! Mine goes along the floor to the back door, then up repeatedly until it is opened for him. There are nose prints on the glass about five feet up!

When my wife and I were in New Zealand a few years back, we stayed on a sheep station on the south island. During this farm stay we observed a Jack Russell that would scramble up slightly inclined trees to chase possums. The owner indicated that a few times it actually caught them. This dog would work her way up in the branches to a height of 20 feet or so.

Here is a nod to "Lizzie" of Mount Bossu Farm near Christchurch. An amazing little dog!

Jack Russells are amazing dogs with an incredible ability to focus on the job at hand! We have had Jack Russells since that holiday in NZ.

So if you are not already bored of photos my little girl, then here is another photo of Nikki!

I remember seeing a Jack Russell on the television years ago, whose owner would throw a stone up into a big fir tree. The Jack Russell would go after it, disappear into the tree, start climbing inside the tree, then every so often would stick its head out from amongst the fronds, barking. It would then disappear, only to reappear further up a little while afterwards, still barking.

Apparently it wouldn't come down until it found the stone, which of course it never could, so the owner had to climb the tree as well to get the dog back!

Since this is my first post I thought I begin with a couple of "portraits" of our Jacks and what they like to do - ride ATVs.

The first is Henry posing. This was taken with my Rebel XTi's main flash. Your comments.

The second is Oscar, Henry and my wife Ruth at 10,500ft on an ATV trail on the North Slope of the Uintas. Oscar is the sire of Henry.

Gisele - Her mother was a Jack Russell and her father a Blue Heeler (Australian Cattle dog). We've owned quite a few pure bloods and mixed breeds over the years and I can say without a doubt, this is the smartest animal we have ever owned. She has the energy of a Jack and loves people. A great little dog!
