Announcements on Jan 23rd/24th.
No confirmation on exact models but no denial on some comments I made.
That supported my earlier predictions in different posts.
Only 7 days.

This one has been going on in the rumors forum for a month. I guess that the slop bucket was full and some of it splashed over here. I have my waders on.

Sorry folks...my bad.
With out me pushing the rep my feeling was my past predictions of the configuration for the 5D's successor were probably pretty close as there was no denial but I got the look from the eyes. More megapixels and faster frame rate were actually mentioned.
But like I said do a search and a few times in past postings I mentioned configurations that I thought it would be.
However like everyone else on here has mentioned before...
Its still a guess.
But we will find out on Jan 23/24th according to the rep.
And like I said before...if I'm close...I'm buying a lottery ticket that day the announcement is made. Odds are probably about the same anyway.

Im hoping for a new Body to come out around the 1500 dollar range, and also a 17-200 lens.

There will be no 5D replacement announced in January 2008. Only the XTi replacement will be announced next week. We won't see the 5D MkII (or 3D/7D) until Photokina (Fall 2008) at the earliest.

Heck, I'm not even sure Canon knows for sure what they're doing this year, let alone some rep at the bottom of the food chain!

Where can I sign up to get one of these "Canon Reps"?...
No seriously though please define this term "Canon Rep" I hear it all the time and don't exactly know what people are referring too. The closest thing I have to a Canon Rep is the person behind the counter at the camera store.

The one's I'm referring to are the regional sales reps that check in with the stores on a regular basis.
Usually they bring promo items & advertising stuff when a new product is launched. At least that's the way it used to work, but who knows, it's been awhile!

Yep, when I worked retail many moons ago, the reps for larger product lines would usually make their rounds every couple of weeks. Many times, in higher traffic stores, the reps would hang around on the weekends (Saturday afternoon) and talk to customers as well.
Usually though, they'd just come in and give us pens and talk about new stuff, and occasionally, when the tech stuff was hot in the 90's, they'd bring in lunch.

I'm wondering what's up at Dell with their XTi pricing.
They just RAISED the price of both the XTi & XTi + kit lens $90 & $110 respectively! Do they know something we don't know? Could this actually be pricing for the 450d?

Yes, and quadrupling the price, and equipping it with some kind of proprietary software so that only a Mac can open Canon files.

Also sealing up the battery so it's no longer user-changeable. No more CF either. That's soldered in too. All new Canon bodies will have the word "Air" tagged on the end.

and if you think that would be bad. think if Bill gates bought Canon...
The camera would give a blue screen of death every third time it was turned on, it would need monthly or weekly firmware updates. it would randomly corrupt your entire card of pictures, and you would then have to pay them to try and recover the file.
Oh yeah and those firmware updates... they would be free for the first year, then you would have to pay for them.

Not to mention the need to "activate" your camera and the performance of random "activation" checks when downloading pictures from the CF card.

If Canon were bought by Apple, then the cameras would only have 1 button, no custom features, a new brushed aluminium body, built in support for itunes, hardwired battery and CF, your current accessories will no longer work, you'll be charged for firmware updates, and the price will double while providing no extra performance or functionality ;)

I think you oversimplified. An Apple EOS camera would be pink and sexy with the best touch-wheel ever on a DSLR. And the cameras would have wireless connectivity with one-button upload to the iTunes stock photo or wherever. It's almost cool!
Then again, I once thought Google should buy Adobe until I saw PhotoShop Express (http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9790168-7.html)

Yeah but "My Canon Rep" used to work for this <Big named Camera store> and he still goes golfing with the owner. so he gets the scoop every time. and he says that "There will" <Definitely/not/__/Etc.> "Be a new Dx markxx announced tomorow"!!!

My Canon rep said the whole January 24th announcement date was a stock tactic, so that Canon officials could dump all their stock today in after-hours trading and close up shop on Friday.
I've heard Nikon has made many of them very nice offers, as well as Google, as I hear they're now getting into the camera business as well! ;)
