I shot these new years eve for a show my friends band played. I had just gotten my new flash (580ex II) and thought I would give it a try. Here are some of the results, and pictures that I like best from the night

I'd drag the shutter to allow some ambient light in.
Now the flash kills any "atmosphere" there was...
Then again, it might just have been awfully dark ;)

The lighting looks very even, I thought it was an open air festival at first! but like Rene said you lose all of the "atmosphere" that goes along with club shooting when you use heavy flash. What ISO were you shooting at? what were some typical exposure readings?

It was actually indoors at a small club, so the lighting was pretty poor. There were some stage lights but otherwise it was dim/dark. I've done some low light stuff before (with these guys actually) but since I just got a new flash for christmas, I wanted to try it out :)

I think with the flash I shot between 200 and 400. I would have to go back through the pictures to see what the exposure settings and such were per/picture. I changed things around a bit throughout the set to try and get some better results.

Thanks. Lighting and Flash are very foreign subjects to me.. I need to really read up on it :)
Font name is "cocaine sans" by the way.
