The last I heard--those were promotional items sometimes given out to pro shotters by CPS (Canon Professional Services), often at large events.
I don't know of any other place to get one.

I found a few other threads talking about them. Seems Canon CPS is the only way to get them, either via phone or at some trade shows where they give them out.

Are you saying they only give them to CPS members?
Great, I'll never get one then, I'm but a low amateur hobbyist.

It's a great way to mark your equipment for theft.

Who leaves thousands of dollars worth of equipment unattended at an event? x_x;; I think I huge white lens screams "steal me" a lot more than a little red monopod cover does ^^;;
And I did a few searches on ebay and didn't find anything... if ebay doesn't have it, I think you're SOL...

Nowhere in my statement above did I mention the word "unattended."
However, as an experienced sports photographer, there are many, many opportunities. Many pros use black tape over the Canon/Nikon moniker and otherwise disguise what they really have.

well, to my surprise, a lot of pros DO leave their equipment unattended a lot of times.
I've seen them number of times just dump their 300mm, 400mm, 70-200mm, bag, monopod, second body etc. on the floor, grab a camera with short lens on, run towards their object to get a shot. First time i've seen it i was really surprised, because they weren't in a pool area, and there were a lot of people walking about!
I did the same  consider what's in my bag is nowhere near the wealth compare to the "pile of stuff" next to mine.
I never leave my stuff out of my sight after that.

I got a few during a G7 conference a number of years ago. The look better than they actually work and I ended up giving them all away.

Oh come on. Anyone looking to steal camera equipment isnt going to be fooled by tape covering a camera trade mark. If they know enough to look for "Nikon or Canon" they can probably tell brand by body shape and lens color.

So is it chimping without the ooohhh ooohhh's? Or do you have to do both, look and the sounds?

Nikon owners put tape on all the identifying badges because....
......because they don't want to be reminded.

It's quite common to leave gear unattended. When I'm shooting Texas Tech games, there are enough pros and friends around who watchout for each other. Plus you have to get screened and have credientials to get on the field or court. If I'm going out on the floor for a prestentation, I'm not going to haul all my gear for that.
I'm considering putting tape over the identifying marks on my 1d Mark II. I'm tired of people looking at my gear when I'm shooting and then asking me questions about it when I'm working.

Obviously Nikon users aren't smart, he has covered up the label on the camera and missed the big yellow one on his strap :D

Not only does she have a sexy accent, but she is also a talented photographer. I am still having trouble memorizing names of players, but once I get that down I can move on to the refs, and other talented people on the field.
