Comparison, shoot through vs soft box.

I'm looking for a convenient method of shooting outdoor with the soft box effect. Does anyone have experience with shoot through umbrellas used for outdoors? How much difference is the shoot through umbrellas vs the soft box?

You won't see much difference outdoors. Catchlights with umbrellas will still have the ribs visible (same as indoors), but otherwise the major differences are when used indoors (control of scatter).
