I just bought one - @ Mac show - anyway the brand name is RAW .
The nice thing is it comes with a firewire 800 adapter so no upgrade when I go to fw 800
Bad thing is it only reads CF cards and has a 2 foot cord . I prefer no cord and carry USB and Firewire extension cables .
Seems to be about 25% faster than USB 2 . Will run another test and post .
$75 including tax .

Just finished ,
1.4 gig to computer w / firewire = a little less than 2 minutes
1.4 gig to computer w / USB 2 = a little less than 26 minutes
It may be a little different on your computer - mine G-4 @1 GIG HZ , 1 GIG MENORY

If it takes 26mins for your USB "2.0" to transfer 1.4 gigs, then it most likely is running at USB 1.1 speeds. Either that, or your reader is quite slow. Quite often, readers come with a 2.0 sticker on them, yet do not achieve speeds anywhere near it's potential. I've had one of those before, but have now switched to Sandisk card readers. They can do 2 gigs in around 2 mins or so.
With the Extreme IV cards, there is a special firewire card reader especially made for it, as the card's read/write speed exceeds those of USB 2.0.

I would have to agree with Derek. I switched from a USB 1.1 reader to a SanDisk USB 2.0 CF reader and the download time difference was remarkable. The 26 minutes sounds a lot closer to the times I was getting with the USB 1.1 reader than the 2.0 reader. (It's a little bit faster than my 1.1 reader was getting so it may be a limitation of that particular reader.)
