There are taxis that run late at night as well. Great spot for sunsets.

Sorry have to pull my transport offer, we are away that weekend, so I can't make it.

We went to Kawau Is. 18 months ago - wild weather made photography difficult and camera wet.
One tip - I was asked to leave the tour through the museum because I took a photo. The rest went on for what they said was a boring 90 minutes, while I wandered around the island and got some useful shots.
If you have an itchy shutter finger, avoid touring the museum...

OK about face, myself and my transport is back in :D I need to recognise what my true priorities were
Please let me know if you want a ride from East Auckland, I have three spaces (four at a push).

I'm keen on this. Do we need to book a ferry or is it just show up?
I've been to the Island once but with a school camp, never seen the rest of the Island.

it's a cost thing, at least $50 on gas and then the cost of the fairy and like.
and then to top it off I would have to get up early. :)

Sounds like a good idea, any plans made as to timings. Can't say I know much about the place. I presume that its a DOC controlled island? I do remember when I went over with one of the kids school camps, there are some very old graveyards, the old copper mine (or what ever is left of the pumphouse), anything else?

I suppose we had better organise a time to meet!
What works? We are about 45min - 1 hour away, so not too early! 10am at the whalf, or earlier?

I'm up for the 10am meet at the wharf? I guess we better time our meet with the time the ferry departs?

That will actually work quite well.
Just phonned the water taxi people, they said that you don't need to book for the 10:30 crossing, where as the others you do.
So meet at 10am for a 10:30am crossing it is! Return can either be at 1:30 or 4:30pm.

excellent, sounds good to me! :) I think we better bump this thread on the main GKPE page. Just to get a clear idea of interest.

OK so based on posts in this thread this is Scott and myself, so (nothing against Scott!) I am cancelling this unless there is a sudden show of interest.
I have had to bend over backwards to get my Sunday back and it will just be easier not to go if there is only going to be 3-4 people.
So three more people to be definite yes's by midday tomorrow or I am out.
Sorry.
Might do something local on Sunday afternoon though.
