I remember reading abit about some who have adapted certain contax or nikon focus screens for use in the canon 300D.Some one even said they'd be making them for sale soon but i haven't heard any more about it...

Has anyone here tried it or know someone else who has?

There are some web pages describing the modification ( with pics) but they are all in other languages

I tried modifying a minolta screen but the focus plane was wrong.
The problem was that the focal plane was ABOVE where the focus screen seats in it's frame so that any normal cut to size screen couldn't possibly work(spacers would make it worse). So any donor screen would have to be slightly recesed like the normal 300D screen.
I did think of filing a step around the edge to calibrate it but kind of lost interest.

Does anyone know how others dealt with this problem?

There's a lot of information on the yahoo forum:

(You'll have to join the forum, as with all the yahoo ones).
Look for posts by Rachel - she's the one who is going to sell the screens.
