I have an 850 IS which uses the SD card. I recently just ordered a High capacity SDHC card. Will this work on the Canon?

Does anybody know for sure?

Here were the specs which I should have had a closer read before ordering:

SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) is a newer SD format which allows capacities in excess of 2GB (4GB to 32GB).
Contains 4G, and uses FAT323
Enhanced DSC and Continuously Video shooting functions
SDHC cards are only compatible with SDHC host devices (indicated with the SDHC logo); however SD cards are compatible with both SD and SDHC card devices.
Class 6 – Speed Rate
The A-data Turbo SDHC memory card is rated a Class 6 performance card which means the card has a guaranteed read/write speed of at least 6MB/s, thus reducing time between shots!

Yes it'll work. But I don't get it. You ask us and then found the answer yourself? It's on the box or in the manual.

thanks. I didn't find the answer. I do not have my box or manual with me at the moment, or my camera for that matter. I wasn't sure if it was SDHC spec. Although I did ordered a card for an event next week.

Ah ok. It seemed like you pasted what you found on the box. But yeah, it'll do fine. Awesome camera! I used to have one. Well, the 800.

Took bad advice from this forum. The SDHC card will NOT work on the 850 IS. *@#%^#@&*!!!!! wasted $24 and wasted my weekend of shooting. fack.

According to Canon USA (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=15262#ModelTechSpecsAct) it will (this is a cut and paste from their web site, emphasis added):
Image Storage
Storage Media: SD Memory Card, SDHC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard
File Format: Design rule for camera file system, DPOF Version 1.1
JPEG Compression Mode: Still Image: Exif 2.2 (JPEG)
Movie: AVI (Image: Motion JPEG; Audio: WAVE (Monaural))Try a deep/low level format on it before you despair, and check the card against other SDHC devices. Also note the stickies on eBay counterfeit cards and on incompatibility of some 4 GB SD (not SDHC) cards.

This was bought from meritlite.com and not ebay.

I will try again to fiddel around with it when I have time. thanks.

I'm sure eBay doesn't have a lock on bogus cards; OTOH, is meritlite.com a real store? The web site that comes up at www.meritlite.com certainly doesn't appear to be for one.
