Hi

don't know if you guys already know this.....there are 2 new accessories from Canon that we can use for our G1s:)

I saw this yesterday at my fav store in Singapore - a 58mm threaded, metal constructed Lens Hood for the G1 / Pro90IS. (i can't remember the exact product code). It appears to be made for the original Canon LA-DC58 Lens adapter. The box package follows the same design and branding colours as the box packages for their lens adapter, tele and wide ange lenses.

Not too sure if i will work well with a Lensmate though....i didn't buy it. Cost is S$35, which I think should be around US$20.....

The other interesting thing I saw was a dual-battery desktop charger from Canon. It takes up to 2 G1 batteries at a time. (no it's not the car charger listed in the manual). The package says "For D30" - the store owner told me it's the same charger that shipped with a D30. Apparently, they are selling it separately.

i'm not sure if this is an official Canon product SKU though! It costs S$200++....

The dual charger is the car charger - the car end unplugs from the dual base and the G1 AC charger that came with the camera plugs in....so you basically get a piece of plastic that holds two batteries for $179.....but I can't live with only being able to charge in the camera, so I've got one on order....

I've found that I plug in every night. I have 2 batteries--the Canon and a Polaroid. Unless I do a heap of shooting (which I did yesterday when I went up into our Blue Ridge Mts.), I never ever go through a battery--and I use the LCD all the time. Plugging the camera in every night means I always have 2 fresh batteries.

Have you found that you are in a situation where you need to recharge 2 at a time?? I've thought about buying a charger, but this hasn't been a hassle at all like my Kodak 280-had 3 sets of rechargeable AA for it and was always charging a set--usually 2.

My G1 is pretty new - but I always like to be charging one while using the other, just in case. Maybe I'm underestimating the capacity of these batteries....but since they are a special battery, (i.e., can't use standard batteries in a pinch), I like to cover my bets...

After reading some reviews at DPreview.com, I went ahead and ordered the Lenmar battery charger from here:
http://www.batterybarn.com/bp511.htm

It has an adapter for both the wall and a cord for your car. It has modular snap-on battery adapters for several different styles of batteries. Pretty reasonably priced too ($47.95 US).
It only charges one battery at a time though.
But with the money I saved on the charger I also bought one of the 1500mAh batteries as a backup.
I'm very happy with both.

They ship via USPS Priority mail (to US addresses) and I received my package 3 days after ordering.
