After completing a great day of photography yesterday I noticed towards the end the there was a spec of dirt when I looked through the viewfinder. Took the lens off and it was still there. Then I got nervous and thought this spec would be on all the pictures I took but it wasn't. Cleaned the viewfinder and blew out the sensor. The spec is still there, more annoying then ever. Anyone have any other ideas on how to get it out of there? Thanks.

If it is on the sensor you will not see it in the viewfinder, check the mirror and the focus screen and give them a good blow.

i have the same problem with 10D - the spec that you see is most likely on the mate focusing screen. If you can't blow it off it's then on the pentaprism in the view finder. It's just an annoyance more than anything else - it doesn't show up in pictures and if you send in the cam to Canon for cleaning they will get that out for you.

As always, thanks for the replies. As you mentioned, it is more of an annoyance then anything else. I will try blowing it out again.

SLRs get dust on their mirrors; it's part of their charm. A very, very small part. Almost microscopic, in fact.
Try blowing it off with an ear syringe, a blower bulb, something like that. Not canned compressed air, if you can avoid it. And whatever you do, don't try wiping the mirror with a tissue or something - believe me, it'll make things much worse than they are now.

You could also consider using a small brush, like a women's makeup brush or a specially made lens cleaning brush, to wipe off dust.
