My open challenge to Canon

After the results of my recent test I saw little difference in noise control. I saw little difference in pixels on target. The real advantage was in the full frame FOV.

I saw that as far as pixels go we are pissing away a lot of time spending money on this chase or spending time onlint talking about the chase.

The body features are selling points for me.

Cameras owned relative to this rant:

3x 1Ds Mk. I
1 x 1D Mk.II
1x 1Ds Mk.II
1x 5D

After all this, I am in love with 1 series features. The noise control between them seems insignificant. I am also a fan of where I came from (film) and teh 35mm equivalent FOV. So full frame is my choice.

Canon needs to target the new professional or the professional who needs two cameras but is not making LARGe dollars doing it.

Put the 5D sensor in a one series body with 14 bit, live view and ISO 3200.
1Ds Mk.I - great resolution and IQ - iso only goes to 1250 . Good used prices.
1Ds Mk.II - great resolution and IQ. Damn expensive.
1D Mk.II - it's the camera I want with the wrong sized sensor. Good used prices.
5D - Right sensor, wrong body

Please Canon, full frame, ISO 3200, killer AF, live view, 1 series body with a 12mp FF sensor for the same price as the new 1D Mk.III. FPS at 5. Do I ask too much? I DO NOT NEED 287.3mp!

It is because I'm left handed? Is it because I liked the cuter but not as popular girls? It is because I owned a Merkur instead of a Mustang? Why must I like what can't be had or what is different from the norm?

I definitely agree that the body size for the 5D is wrong.. If it was like a 1 series body I would have gotten it by now.. even with the grip, it just doesn't feel the same. :(

I've been thinking the same thing. Slap the improved micro-lenses on the 12.8MP sensor and stuff it into a 1DsM3 body, sell it for $5000 and Canon will have itself sales.

Buy the separate parts and put them together how you want them?

Buy the 12.8MP FF sensor, the DIGIC3 motherboard, the 1D case... have the open source firmware so you can reprogram that bloody direct print button...

I'll tell ya what would be cool:

Buttons that you could program yourself!

Want focus here and ISO there? Want aperture there and FEC here? No problem, the buttons do what you want or need them to do.

Anyone remember the outrageously programmable joystick/throttle combos that were sold for controlling military flight sims? Something like 48 buttons that had three levels of programability. There was usually a GUI screen where you could map the button programming and then print out a "three view" showing what each button did.

I think it would be great if you could do the same with a dSLR...

I had that idea a while ago.

Basicly like a MF system where the sensor is like a "back" for MF, you can switch frim film to digital and change view finders and what have you.

3 main bodies such as a 1 Series body, a 40D/5D size body and a 400D body. And have a film like door which you open to change the sensor.

Unrealistic, sure. But talk about groundbreaking.
