Whats a 430EX or 550EX selling for these days?

I'm thinking about putting one or both on EBAY so I can
buy a faster recycling flash.

I think that the 430 is around $300.00. Haven't seen a 550 for sale in a while.

You can buy a brand new 430EX for $249 and I just picked up a brand new 580 EXII for $329.

How much faster does a 580 recycle, compared to a 430ex? My 430ex seems very slow to me

I can't speak for the 580, but my 430ex recycles really fast...no complaints at all about speed. At full power, it may take a while, but I usually get 5 or 6 shots off in a burst at about 1/4 power before it stalls, and then only for a couple of seconds. And if you aren't shooting bursts, I never really have to wait for the flash.

What type of batteries are you using? You will get much better results with a high mAh rechargeable like the Sanyo Eneloop 2700's than a low mAh rechargeable or regular alkalines. Of course with the 580 you can also get the external battery pack that will make a big difference.

I'm using good nimh batteries. It won't take consectutive shots without recharging for atleast a second or 3 between shots. I was using ETTL with 800 iso. I dont know what power it was using. I see the papparazi flashing like 2-3 per second or more. I'm just wondering what flash that could be

I have an external battery pack for my 550EX but it's not fast enough for these horse shows.
It's kept up OK so far - but I do wish it was faster.

It's WONDERFUL for Portrait Photography.
