2nd time using my new 1D. Still favor this over my 40D without a doubt. Can't wait for football season lol

They dont really do much for me personally.

#1 Id crop tighter, but then it would probably feel like something is missing. I also dont like that #20 is in front of her.
#2 Is another I would crop tighter but I dont like the arm going across the players midsection.
#3 Is my favorite of all of them but I would still crop it tighter. Theres just too much space and too many things that my eye can wander to.

Strobes look nice though. I think Im going to have to work with mine some more in the future and get the hang of it haha

Just for fun, try an aggressive crop on #2 and #3. You could crop the shooters between the knee and the hip ( save the CH in #3), cut off the distracting sign above the head in #3, get rid of the players to the right side of the image in # 3, and narrow #2 a lot.

My guess is the distractions will go way down and the emotion level will go way up. You've got compelling images to work with.

PS--If it looks goofy, I'll give back all the money you paid for my advice!;)

Better or Worse? (I'm sure you could do better with the full files.)

As far as crops, way better. Just crop the original. :)

to be honest the only one I would have cropped tighter was the 2nd one (left side). I like the other 2 and they show what I wanted to show action wise. I know the word is tight in sports action, but sometimes I think a wider image shows a story to the picture.

I agree. I prefer to see a scene that depicts a game being played, rather than isolating on a single individual. But that's me, and I know others prefer the isolated look.

As a side note, I am envious that you get to shoot with strobes. I have little luck of that happening for my HS basketball.

You know you should try talking to the coach and see if you can test them out during practice so he can see what they are like and see that they don't bother players.

THe side of the court I was on was very bright to be honest. But in the middle of the court there were two lights out lol. It helped though that the ceiling was flat, some what low and white.

Sometimes I'll post the same image with a wide and a tight crop. Each style can have strengths. A parent may prefer one style and the other crop may be more appropriate for a yearbook, for example.
