I am going to start shooting sporting events for The University of Houston newspaper and I need a 70-200 f2.8 lens, but I only have a 70-200L f4.
I have an offer for a trade
My 70-200L f4 + Collar + $100
for his
Sigma 70-200 f2.8 mint
Would you trade, r save for the 70-200L f2.8??

For sports you'd be better off getting the L.
But then it's for the paper... I think you should just get the 70-300 and be happy. :P

Who gets the $100.00?
Unles it's you.. I wouldn't trade.
The Canon will allwyas maintian a higher reslae value. Sigam loses 10-25% the moment it's off the shelf. In essence.. even though your freind may have spent close to $100.00 more on the Sigma.. it was worth less than the Canon the day he brought it home.

That is interesting...and quite possibly true. But, the faster f-stop would be worth it in this situation, clearly. I don't think that any difference in image quality, which should be minimal, would be discernable once it is printed in a newspaper. The Sigma is a good lens, maybe the best that Sigma makes.
