The Bingham Minors improved to 14-1 on the season with a blowout victory over the visiting Copper Hills Grizzlies, 54-22. At the end of the 3rd quarter Bingham was leading 42-12.

Enjoy

2. Love this shot because of the look on the Bingham (white jersey) players face.

Nice shots, cant pick any "Ghosting" this time.
Colours look very natural, good whites and skin tones.
Some of the players don't look like, what I would call a Minor.
Why do the players have white band on their wrists. It looks as if they have just come out of Hospital...:)

Look good Matt. What speed do you have your Servo set at? How are you liking the 1 series?

I LOVE the 1D. I still don't know what to use to be honest. I have tried all of the settings and it seems like they do about the same result wise.

Maybe someone that has shot bball can offer some insight on what speed to use servo wise (or if you know Dan-o). I am curious to see what others use.

Don't know to be honest. I never noticed them till you pointed them out. Looks like a single piece of tape with a name on them.

ok after getting lucky I can see a name on one of the arms, it says Newby and from their profiles I see that a girl named Erika Newbold has a nickname of, Big Newby.

Guessing something happened to her, no idea though.

(EDIT) Even more it seems there are two players, a Malori Dixon and the girl named above on these girls wrists.

Matt, Are you metering your strobes 2 stops above ambient or more? I'm getting ready to give it a go with my White Lightnings, although I'm not sure if my White Lightning Radio Remotes are up to the task. I had problems with mis-fires in my studio. I'm pretty sure it was interference from my 900 mhz cordless phone or my modem and hope in the High school gym, I won't have that problem. If I do, I going to pick up a set of Elinchrom Skyports.
Anyway, nice stuff. I hope I can do as well!

I don't have a light meter so I just go by my histo to be honest. I kinda just know what is working and where to place and aim at this point. The only gym I have issues with is the home gym I shoot at because of the sloping ceilings and how high they are. If they were flat it would be super easy like every other place I have been to lol

I just keep them on Full power and bounce away. I just my ISO and F stop to help keep the background behind the players darker.

You're more like Edward Weston than Ansel Adams. The empirical method vs the scientific method! Me too! I play around until I find something that works.
I do like the darker background, makes the players stand out from the background.
I have a meter and I think I'll try 2 stops and see how it works out.
Thanks and keep up the nice work!

BTW the bounced light looks more natural in my opinion (not as harsh) I'll try bouncing the light on a few to see if I can get the same effect you're getting.

without a doubt bounce if you can.

Yeah without a light meter is really is guess work. I usually get to the game early enough to shoot the JV game. I will setup and shoot that game and adjust when needed for the varsity game. For the most part I have it down it just matters what type of ceiling they have to be honest.

Matt, those are some really good shots, the balance you got is spot on, I have to shoot HS BB with natural light the coaches I have run into in my area don't like strobes. Lucky for me that the couple schools I cover for my paper have very good lighting. I only strobe the colleges I shoot for. One of the ways I found to see if I would get ghosting is this, I take a pic at the sync speed (250) and the iso I want to use and aperture, with strobes off, I then adjust aperture till I get a mostly black pic. I then turn on strobes and shoot starting at the aperture settings I got from the dark pic. Give that a try I found it useful in seeing if I am getting any ghosting

Nice shots. The colors really pop off the screen. Did you do a curves or contrast adjustments.... or any special pp? Each thread your shots are getting better and better.

Ahh blowout victories, I don't remember what those are like...well, except the first game this season but we were the ones getting spanked 43-13! :)

Not bad, looks like you're getting more and more used to the strobes - colors look good, good action - etc. I still need to shoot a game here soon to test them out for b-ball. Maybe one of the games I'm coaching I'll set them up and sneak a few shots here and there, but I'll be on the bench so limited range. Just have to find a way to scream, pound my clipboard and take photos at the same time!

For others using strobes DEFINATELY bounce them if you can in sports like basketball and volleyball. Direct flash and definately direct strobes is way to distracting and annoying.

Well I hate to be the only one to say anything negative but thats the only way you learn, right?

Ive got to admit I really like your colors. Im still seeing ghosting on the hands (at least in 1 and 2) and it may not be as big a deal to you as it is to me so take it for what its worth.
#1 Is still a little loose IMO. I guess if you have to shoot a certain size, theres nothing you can do about it so again, take that for what its worth.
#2 I dont really like. It looks like the ball just fell and shes just kinda staring at it. If she was reaching for it or something, I may like it.
#3/4 Are nice...but just nothing special IMO. I take shots like these when I shoot for stock images but its not anything I personally would bother posting up.
#5 Is a little ... different haha. Again, Id say to crop tighter but it seems as though youre limited on what you can do with cropping so maybe Im just beating a dead horse.
