CDS and I spent about an hour shooting several Cedar Waxwings on a trail at Parker River NWR. A couple of juveniles sat nicely on a branch for us, and even stayed there while we went back to the car for the external flashes. I still have to process those - it was a tough situation as they were deep inside some bushes.
It was a good thing that these beautiful birds were so nice to us - I got CDS up well before dawn and the place was empty of birds for quite a while. And then he kept running into the "Do Not Enter" signs which litter the refuge. He kept up a decent stream of cursing even as he walked past the signs and into the Forbidden Zones. The constant moaning kinda reminded me of this time we went to Monomoy and the complaints were non-stop and - oh, wait - that was me that time....
Back to the birds... I love Cedar Waxwings, and this was my 5th attempt at getting a decent picture. Either one of these pics was certainly worth waking up at 4:00 AM.
I wish that I had remembered to clone those two branches out...

Not too shabby for handheld, manual focus and 560mm of lens...
